Ultrafiltration ceramic membrane as oxidant-catalyst/water contactor to promote sulfate radical AOPs: a case study on 17β-estradiol and 17α-ethinylestradiol removal

Reynel M. Castellanos et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the performance of an ultrafiltration ceramic membrane as a support for photocatalysts and oxidant-catalyst/water contactors in promoting sulfate radical advanced oxidation processes. Activation of peroxydisulfate (PDS) involves both photolysis (UVC irradiation) and chemical electron transfer (TiO2-P25 photocatalysis). The design of the photoreactor facilitates effective delivery of the oxidant to the catalyst particles and to the reaction zone, resulting in efficient removal of endocrine disrupting chemicals from water.

Effect of ozonation on the biodegradability urban wastewater treatment plant effluent

Lam Thanh Phan et al.

Summary: The study found that ozonation led to a dose-dependent increase in biological activity, particularly for substances that are recalcitrant to biodegradation. Additionally, ozonation enhanced the degradation potential of COD and BDOC, while also partially mineralizing organic compounds. These results suggest that a combination of ozonation and biological post-treatment can contribute to sustainable water resource management by reducing biodegradable organic carbon emissions.
