Influence of thermocapillary flow induced by a heated substrate on atomization driven by surface acoustic waves

J. Munoz et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the effect of thermocapillary flow on the interfacial destabilization of a heated Newtonian droplet subjected to surface acoustic waves. The analysis shows that shear stresses combined with SAWs lead to the development of thermocapillary flow due to the dependence of surface tension on interfacial temperature. The resulting droplet model predicts capillary instability and atomization once a critical amplitude is reached for the induced capillary waves, and demonstrates the influence of thermocapillary flow on droplet deformation and aerosol size.

Molecular simulation of alkyl glycoside surfactants with different concentrations inhibiting methane diffusion in coal

Shugang Li et al.

Summary: The injection of surfactant solutions into coal seams is an important technical means to prevent coal mine disasters. This study investigates the microkinetic mechanism of inhibiting gas desorption in coal by injecting different concentrations of alkyl poly glucoside surfactant (APG) into CH4-containing coal. The results reveal that with the increase in APG concentration, the diffusion coefficient of CH4 decreases gradually, and the interaction energy between APG and CH4-containing coal decreases, effectively inhibiting the diffusion of CH4 in coal.

Guoqing Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect and influencing factors of a biological dust suppressant on secondary dust generated by coal dust. The experimental results show that the biological dust suppressant has the best effect on suppressing secondary dust from coal dust with particle size above 200 μm, particularly for lignite.

An adaptable direct simulation Monte Carlo method for simulating acoustic agglomeration of solid particles

Zhihao Wu et al.

Summary: An adaptable direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method was developed to simulate acoustic agglomeration of solid particles, which successfully validated against experimental data under various operational conditions. The results showed significant decrease in the number concentration of small particles and a small increase in the number concentration of large particles during acoustic agglomeration, with a worse performance observed at higher restitution coefficient. This study demonstrated the capability of the proposed method in simulating acoustic agglomeration and provided a fundamental approach for investigating dispersed gas-solid two-phase flows.

Research on the wetting mechanism of coal dust by different surfactants: combination of experimental characterization and molecular dynamics simulation

Gang Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, two surfactant solutions were prepared to wet coal dust, and the surface tension, contact angle, and functional group composition were measured. The results showed that the SDDS/AEO-9 solution had lower surface tension and critical micelle concentration compared to the SDDS/SDBS solution at the same mixing ratio. The wetting effect on coal dust was best when the ratio of SDDS:SDBS was 2:1. The study found that aliphatic hydrocarbons and surface tension had a positive correlation with contact angle in SDDS/SDBS solutions, while hydroxyl groups had a negative correlation. Only surface tension and contact angle showed a significant linear relationship in the SDDS/AEO-9 solution. The combination of surfactants played an important role in the wetting process of coal.

Influence of large seed particle on acoustic particle interaction dynamics: A numerical study

Nana Yang et al.

Summary: The influence of seed particles on acoustic agglomeration was studied and it was found that the enhancement is mainly due to the acoustic wake effect. By comparing with other collision kernels, the results demonstrate that the acoustic field remarkably enhances the collision rate.

Qun Zhou et al.

Summary: This review presents a description of coal dust control technologies based on water mediums and compares these technologies. Factors influencing the effectiveness of dust control technologies based on water mediums are identified and analyzed, indicating that solution wettability is not the sole key factor. Challenges and future research directions include investigating the coagulation mechanism between dust particles and droplets as well as improving the spatial distribution of droplets near dust sources.

Summary: This review critically examines coal dust agglomeration mechanisms and dust suppression effectiveness, summarizing four steps for capturing coal dust particles and illustrating two agglomeration mechanisms. The research shows that surfactants can significantly improve indirect dust suppression, with the direct dust suppression efficiency of surfactant-enhanced water spray technology generally between 80% and 95%.

Exploration on molecular dynamics simulation methods of microscopic wetting process for coal dust

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study used molecular dynamics simulation to explore the micro-wetting process of coal dust, proposed a method for establishing a molecular model of lignite with a more reasonable 2D periodic surface structure, and established a coal-H2O molecular surface system using the NVT aeration method, which showed a close approximation to the actual coal dust wetting process. The simulation effect of medium and large coal dust-H2O molecular systems was found to be better than that of small coal dust-H2O molecular systems.
