Anthropic impact on soil heavy metal contamination in riparian ecosystems of northern Algeria

Pasquale Napoletano et al.

Summary: The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of urbanization and agriculture on soil quality by studying heavy metal accumulation in the riparian ecosystems of Medjerda river. The study found higher concentrations of heavy metals in urban and peri-urban areas compared to non-urban areas. The results also showed a strong impact of heavy metals on soil quality in urban areas.

Distribution of heavy metals and related health risks through soil ingestion in rural areas of western Japan

Kei Nakagawa et al.

Summary: The distribution of heavy metal concentrations and related human health risks were investigated in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. Potential heavy metal contamination in an area affected by nitrate pollution was clarified, with livestock waste application and other anthropogenic pollutants identified as the possible sources. High concentrations of Cu and Zn were found in agricultural areas and urban areas.

Effect of short-term pig slurry amendment of soil on humified organic matter and its relationship with the dynamics of heavy metals and metals uptake by plants

Joao A. M. Furtado E. Silva et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of pig slurry application on the dynamics of humic substances and the mobility of metals in soil. The results showed that pig slurry application increased the organic carbon content in soil, especially the nonhumic carbon, leading to an increase in fulvic acid content. Additionally, the application of pig slurry modified the structure of humic substances and influenced the accumulation of metals in soil and plants.
