A Study on Cation-Dependent Resonance Energy Transfer in Crown-Containing Bischromophoric System Based on 4-Methoxy-and 4-Styryl-1,8-naphthalimide

Pavel A. Panchenko et al.

Summary: In this study, a bis-chromophoric chemosensor BNI based on Azadithia-15-crown-5 ether was successfully synthesized via copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition click reaction. Excitation of BNI resulted in resonance energy transfer (RET) and the formation of a specific fluorescence band. Analysis of the spectra showed that the energy transfer efficiency in the free ligand was 65%. However, the experimental value was considerably lower than the theoretical value, which can be explained by the occurrence of competing photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process. Additionally, binding of silver cations to BNI inhibited PET and increased the efficiency of resonance energy transfer.

Fluorescent chemosensor for mercury(II) cations in an aqueous solution based on 4-acetylamino-1, 8-naphthalimide derivative containing the N-phenylazadithia-15-crown-5-ether receptor

P. A. Panchenko et al.

Summary: A novel compound containing an N-phenylazadithia-15-crown-5-ether fragment was synthesized and showed high selectivity and sensitivity for detecting Hg2+ ions in aqueous solution. The compound displayed different fluorescence properties in the excited state, allowing for accurate determination of the stability constant and detection concentration of Hg2+ through spectral changes.
