Initial effect of high-volume mobilisation with movement on shoulder range of motion and pain in patients with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain: protocol for a randomised controlled trial (Evolution Trial)

Sizhong Wang et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the effect of mobilisation with movement (MWM) on the angular onset of pain during shoulder abduction in patients with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain (RCRSP). The study will recruit 60 participants with RCRSP and randomly assign them to receive either MWM or sham MWM intervention. The primary outcome is the angular onset of pain during shoulder abduction. Secondary outcomes include pain intensity, shoulder range of motion, pressure pain threshold, mechanical temporal summation, global rating of change scale, and Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form.

Is the angular onset of pain during arm elevation associated to functioning in individuals with rotator cuff related shoulder pain?

Gustavo Ricci Noes et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the association between the angular onset of pain during arm elevation and upper-limb functioning in individuals with rotator cuff related shoulder pain (RCRSP). The results showed that individuals with an angular onset of pain above 120° had better upper-limb functioning compared to those with an angular onset of pain between 60°-120°. Male sex, younger age, non-dominant side being affected, and longer duration of symptoms were also associated with better functioning.

Tailored exercise and manual therapy versus standardised exercise for patients with shoulder subacromial pain: a feasibility randomised controlled trial (the Otago MASTER trial)

Daniel C. Ribeiro et al.

Summary: The study aimed to compare tailored versus standardised exercise programmes for shoulder subacromial pain, finding that the recruitment rate was 3 participants per month, with a 23% enrolment rate and 14% drop-out rate. Overall adherence to the rehabilitation programme was 85%. No significant between-group differences were found for most outcome measures, with minor adverse events observed only in the tailored exercise group.

Do psychological factors relate to movement-evoked pain in people with musculoskeletal pain? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Lynn Leemans et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the association between psychological factors and movement-evoked pain in patients with musculoskeletal pain, showing a weak to moderate correlation between movement-evoked pain and depressive symptoms, pain-related fear, and pain catastrophizing in people with musculoskeletal pain.

Toward Understanding Movement-evoked Pain (MEP) and its Measurement A Scoping Review

Dottington Fullwood et al.

Summary: This scoping review identified significant variations in the measurement of MEP and highlighted the lack of explicit definition for MEP in the studies reviewed. The results collectively illuminated differences in MEP compared with rest pain, movement provocation methods, and pain intensity as the primary outcome. To advance the study of MEP, consistent terminology, standardized measurement, and clear methodological processes are recommended.

A Paradigm Shift for Movement-based Pain Assessment in Older Adults: Practice, Policy and Regulatory Drivers

Staja Q. Booker et al.

Summary: Nursing profession has been at the forefront of pain assessment and management in older adults, with self-report traditionally being the most reliable method. Emerging practices suggest continuously assessing the impact of pain on function and measuring pain during movement-based activities instead of at rest.

Inclinometer Reliability for Shoulder Ranges of Motion in Individuals With Subacromial Impingement Syndrome

Marcela C. Tozzo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the intra- and interrater reliability of active and passive range of motion in individuals with subacromial impingement syndrome, using a digital inclinometer. The results showed moderate to excellent reliability between raters, indicating that the digital inclinometer is a reliable tool for measuring range of motion in shoulders with unilateral subacromial impingement syndrome.

New Zealand Population Norms for the EQ-5D-5L Constructed From the Personal Value Sets of Participants in a National Survey

Trudy Sullivan et al.

Summary: The study derived population norms for EQ-5D-5L in New Zealand, with an average utility value of 0.847 and an average EQ-VAS score of 74.8. Different age groups and genders showed varying levels of anxiety and depression, with those with long-term disabilities or chronic illnesses having higher odds of problems on all dimensions. Age, ethnicity, employment status, long-term disability, and chronic illness were found to be associated with utility values.
