Exfoliation of coarse printed circuit boards using dimethylacetamide: Production of copper concentrates

Kai Dean Kang et al.

Summary: This study investigates value recovery using coarse printed circuit boards (PCBs) through organic swelling pre-treatment. The experiment demonstrates the effectiveness of organic swelling in causing cracks and delamination in the multi-layered structure of the PCBs. Copper concentrate with high copper contents can be obtained by performing organic swelling for coarse PCBs. The weakened PCBs after organic swelling can be subjected to a less energy-intensive mechanical method to yield embedded copper foils.

Study on particle characteristics and metal distribution of waste printed circuit boards based on a shear crusher

Yake Yao et al.

Summary: The study investigates the particle characteristics and metal distribution during the fine crushing of waste PCBs using a shear crusher. The results show that better crushing efficiency is achieved with a feeding concentration of 183 g/L and crushing time of 60s. The coarse and fine particles of waste PCBs have higher circularity and smaller aspect ratio compared to medium-size particles. The main metal elements are distributed in waste PCBs with different particle sizes, and the total metal content in the coarse crushed products is higher than that in the fine crushed products.

Surface change of microplastics in aquatic environment and the removal by froth flotation assisted with cationic and anionic surfactants

Hongru Jiang et al.

Summary: Microplastics (MPs) are released into the environment due to the widespread usage and improper management of plastics. This study found that exposure to the natural environment increases the hydrophilicity of MPs. The flotation efficiency of different types of MPs decreased to zero after six months of natural incubation in rivers. Surfactants were applied to enhance the hydrophobicity and flotation efficiency of MPs.
