Sustainable Cement Composite Integrating Waste Cellulose Fibre: A Comprehensive Review

Summary: This review summarizes the research conducted so far on cement-based composites reinforced with waste paper-based cellulose fibres, focusing on their composition, mechanical properties, and durability characteristics. The properties of the raw materials significantly affect the formation of the cement composite binders. Silica and magnesium compounds have positive effects on the setting of the cement composite when combined with waste paper cellulose fibres. The dispersion of fibres in the matrix is crucial for developing composites with well-balanced mechanical properties using waste paper cellulose fibres. Water quantity plays a role in improving fibre dispersion, but higher porosity and voids affect the strength properties beyond an optimum water-to-cement ratio.

Risk of intact forest landscape loss goes beyond global agricultural supply chains

Non-agricultural products are major contributors to IFL loss, with over 60% linked to final consumption. Export, primarily from Russia, Canada, and tropical regions, accounts for more than one-third of IFL loss, with logging and mining as the major causes. It is crucial for governments to engage and intervene in supply chains to address the dispersed drivers of IFL loss and their indirect links to individual consumers.
