Future Projections of Extreme Precipitation Climate Indices over South America Based on CORDEX-CORE Multimodel Ensemble

Michelle Simoes Reboita et al.

Summary: This study aims to describe the projected changes in extreme precipitation events over South America with the use of three RCMs under the CORDEX-CORE framework. While RCMs generally capture the spatial pattern of climate indices, there are differences in intensity between them. The ensemble with all RCMs shows slightly better spatial correlation with reference data compared to individual RCM ensembles.

Extreme indices of temperature and precipitation in South America: trends and intercomparison of regional climate models

Miguel Lagos-Zuniga et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the capability of three regional climate models (RCMs) to reproduce historical extreme climate indices in South America (SA) and predicted future climate change. The results showed that the models exhibited better agreement in spatial variability than in inter-annual variability, and there were differences in precipitation signals between RCMs and their driving global climate models (GCMs).

Multi-objective optimisation and guidelines for the design of dispatchable hybrid solar power plants with thermochemical energy storage

Ruben Bravo et al.

Summary: This research highlights the importance of high renewable penetration for achieving net-zero energy and suggests that integrating thermochemical energy storage into hybrid solar power plants can enhance dispatchability and efficiency. By optimizing the design and operation of these plants, it is possible to develop affordable and dispatchable solar power solutions that can be widely deployed.

Evaluation of spatial-temporal variation performance of ERA5 precipitation data in China

Donglai Jiao et al.

Summary: ERA5 is the latest fifth-generation reanalysis global atmosphere dataset from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, replacing ERA-Interim as the next generation of representative satellite-observational data on the global scale. ERA5 data have been evaluated and applied in different regions, but the performances are inconsistent. This study evaluates the temporal-spatial performance of ERA5 precipitation data from 1979 to 2018 based on gridded-ground meteorological station observational data across China, showing that ERA5 captures the patterns of observed precipitation well but slightly overestimates precipitation in the summer, with accuracy varying across different regions in China.
