Reliability assessment for products with two performance characteristics based on marginal stochastic processes and copulas

Xudan Chen et al.

Summary: This article proposes a framework for bivariate degradation modeling based on hybrid stochastic processes and copula functions, aiming to investigate the multivariate degradation models and reliability assessment of complex structure highly reliable products. The simulation study indicates that the holistic Bayesian parameter estimation method is more effective than the two-step Bayesian parameter estimation method.

Condition-Based Maintenance for Traction Power Supply Equipment Based on Partially Observable Markov Decision Process

Sheng Lin et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a maintenance model for traction power supply equipment (TPSE) based on partially observable Markov decision process. The degradation process of TPSE is described using a four-state Markov process, and the model considers imperfect maintenance. Validation using actual fault record data shows that the model can provide guidance on maintenance decision-making under uncertainty, optimizing both TPSE reliability and operational cost.

Performance assessment of K-out-of-N safety instrumented systems subject to cascading failures

Lin Xie et al.

Summary: Safety instrumented systems often use redundancy for fault tolerance, but are vulnerable to dependent failures like common cause and cascading failures. This paper argues the significance of considering cascading failures caused by functional dependencies, hazardous events, and shared resources in reliability analysis. A recursive aggregation-based approach is proposed for analyzing performance of K-out-of-N safety instrumented systems, with general approximation formulas developed for estimating failure probabilities. The impact of cascading failures on safety instrumented systems is illustrated using a case study of a fire water pump.
