A delay-time model to integrate the sequence of resumable jobs, inspection policy, and quality for a single-component system

Wilfrido Quinones Sinisterra et al.

Summary: This study proposes a model that integrates the scheduling of resumable jobs and inspection policy in a critical single-component system. The deterioration process is modeled with a delay-time concept, allowing the system to be in good, defective, or failed states. The proposed model includes a limit on consecutive minimal repairs to prevent the production of a substantial proportion of non-conforming items. A mathematical framework, simulation model, and Genetic Algorithm are developed to minimize expected total costs. The study compares the Genetic Algorithm with a heuristic algorithm and the proposed model with its simplified version, achieving a significant improvement in some cases.

Integrated production-maintenance strategy considering quality constraints in dry machining

I. Majdouline et al.

Summary: This study proposes an integrated production-maintenance policy that considers production parameters, preventive maintenance period, product quality, etc., aiming to maximize the total expected profit per time unit. A mathematical model is developed to express the average profit per time unit as a function of decision variables, and a solving procedure is proposed with a numerical example and sensitivity analysis to show the impact of major input parameters on the optimal policy.

Production, maintenance and quality inspection planning of a hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing system under production rate-dependent deterioration

Patrick Megoze Pongha et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study on a hybrid manufacturing and remanufacturing system that degrades according to its production rate. The objective is to develop optimal policies for manufacturing, remanufacturing, maintenance and quality control. Stochastic dynamic programming approach is used to develop optimal conditions, and numerical methods are applied to determine optimal thresholds, control ratios and maintenance operations. Simulations and sensitivity analysis validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategies, which outperform existing policies.

Integrated Quality, Maintenance and Production model for multivariate processes: A Bayesian Approach

Konstantinos A. Tasias

Summary: In the era of modern manufacturing, automated inspection systems can assist in product quality assessment and provide data for both process control and equipment maintenance. This paper proposes a Bayesian model that optimizes the interrelated aspects of production, maintenance, and quality, to transform collected data into optimal decisions that enhance the value of the monitoring process.

A reliability based integrated model of maintenance planning with quality control and production decision for improving operational performance

Pravin P. Tambe et al.

Summary: This paper presents an integrated planning approach for the three core functions of shop floor management, namely maintenance, production scheduling, and quality. Mathematical models and a flow chart are proposed, and metaheuristic approaches are used for optimization. Simulation studies and experimental analysis demonstrate the improved operational performance and cost-effectiveness of the integrated planning approach.

Joint optimization of preventive maintenance and production scheduling for multi-state production systems based on reinforcement learning

Hongbing Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the integrated optimization problem of production scheduling for multi-state single-machine production systems experiencing degradation processes, considering preventive maintenance tasks and jobs scheduling to find the optimal production policy. R-learning algorithm is introduced to maximize rewards over infinite horizon, presenting appropriate conditions for preventive maintenance and proposing a novel heuristic reinforcement learning method for more efficient handling of the integrated model. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in solving integrated problems.

Summary: This study aims to develop an integrated strategy involving production, maintenance, and quality control, with a focus on finding optimal values to minimize total costs per unit time. The model considers various aspects of a manufacturing system and establishes the relationships between preventive maintenance policy, buffer stock size, and control chart parameters. It provides a novel approach to practical situations where only systematic periodic preventive maintenance is feasible for economic or technical reasons.
