Birkhoff Normal Form and Long Time Existence for Periodic Gravity Water Waves

Massimiliano Berti et al.

Summary: We investigate the gravity water waves system with a periodic one-dimensional interface in infinite depth and provide a rigorous proof for Dyachenko-Zakharov's conjecture regarding the approximate integrability of these equations. By rigorously reducing the water waves equations to its integrable Birkhoff normal form up to order 4, we also obtain a long-time stability result for periodic perturbations of a flat interface.

Hamiltonian Paradifferential Birkhoff Normal Form for Water Waves

Massimiliano Berti et al.

Summary: This article presents the almost global existence result of small amplitude space periodic solutions of the 1D gravity-capillary water waves equations with constant vorticity. The proof is based on a novel Hamiltonian paradifferential Birkhoff normal form approach for quasi-linear PDEs.

Traveling Quasi-periodic Water Waves with Constant Vorticity

M. Berti et al.

Summary: This study presents the first bifurcation result of time quasi-periodic traveling wave solutions for space periodic water waves with vorticity. Specifically, small amplitude time quasi-periodic solutions of the gravity-capillary water waves equations with constant vorticity are proven to exist, for a bidimensional fluid over a flat bottom delimited by a space-periodic free interface. These quasi-periodic solutions exist for all values of depth, gravity, and vorticity, and constrain the surface tension to a Borel set of asymptotically full Lebesgue measure.

Quadratic Life Span of Periodic Gravity-capillary Water Waves

M. Berti et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the gravity-capillary water waves equations for a bi-dimensional fluid with a periodic one-dimensional free surface. Through a rigorous reduction to Birkhoff normal form up to cubic degree, we examine the chaotic dynamics and prove that initial data of a certain size in a smooth Sobolev space lead to a solution that remains in an epsilon-ball of the same Sobolev space for a duration of order epsilon(-2) for all values of gravity, surface tension, and depth.
