Oral opioid prescribing to active duty US military personnel: a cross-sectional population

Summary: This study evaluated the prescribing patterns of oral opioids to active duty military personnel from 2017 to 2020. It found a decrease in the proportion of military personnel receiving oral opioid prescriptions during the study period. Female gender, older age, Army and Marine personnel, no history of military deployment, and being stationed within the continental USA were identified as risk factors for receiving an opioid prescription.
