H. Bendjeffal et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the adsorption of phosphate ions using Punica granatum shells as a sorbent material. The PGS powder was characterized and its adsorption capacity for PO43- was evaluated. A chemometric method based on the Box-Behnken design was applied to optimize the operating factors. The best adsorption amount was obtained at specific conditions and the process followed the pseudo-second-order model with a maximum adsorbent quantity.

Remediation of hexavalent chromium in column by green synthesized nanoscale zero-valent iron/nickel: Factors, migration model and numerical simulation

Fang Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, green tea extract-synthesized nanoscale zero-valent iron/nickel (GT-nZVI/Ni) was used to remediate Cr(VI) contaminated soil columns. The optimal conditions for the suspension, as well as the factors influencing its effectiveness, were investigated. The addition of Na+ and Ca2+ promoted the immobilization of Cr(VI) in soil, while humic acid weakened this process. Injection of GT-nZVI/Ni resulted in a significant reduction of weak acid extractable and reduced chromium, thereby reducing the toxic hazard of hexavalent chromium in the soil.

Tea waste based natural adsorbent for toxic pollutant removal from waste samples

Mohammad Mahbub Kabir et al.

Summary: The study showed that alkali treated tea waste (ATTW) could effectively remove chromium pollutants from water, with adsorption processes described by pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and intra-particles diffusion models. The Langmuir model had the best fitting and the maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 158.73 mg/g. Additionally, ATTW exhibited excellent regeneration capacity.

Usman Khalil et al.

Summary: Rice husk was found to be an efficient adsorptive material for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater, with high adsorption capacity and potential environmental and economic benefits. Studies showed that physical and monolayer adsorption were the dominant mechanisms, with a fast adsorption rate of Cr(VI) onto rice husk mainly attributed to -OH and C-H groups.

Effect of hexavalent chromium on the environment and removal techniques: A review

Kingsley Eghonghon Ukhurebor et al.

Summary: Chromium is an important element in anthropogenic activities, but its environmental pollution is now a major concern. While Cr(0) and Cr(III) are vital trace elements for growth, Cr(VI) is toxic to living organisms. Its accumulation could pose a potential threat to plants and animals.

Isotherms and kinetic modelling of mycoremediation of hexavalent chromium contaminated wastewater

Latifa A. Mohamed et al.

Summary: This study utilized fungal biomass for the biosorption of hexavalent chromium, revealing the importance of understanding the surface chemistry and morphology of the biomass. By analyzing isotherm and kinetic models, it was determined that the accuracy of modeling depends on the number of parameters in the equations. The mechanistic studies highlighted the film diffusion mechanism as the dominant factor in biosorption, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 87.3 mg.g(-1) demonstrated by Aspergillus terricola biomass.
