Heterointerface Created on Au-Cluster-Loaded Unilamellar Hydroxide Electrocatalysts as a Highly Active Site for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Sho Kitano et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the loading of gold clusters on unilamellar exfoliated layered double hydroxide (ULDH) electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), forming a heterointerface between gold clusters and ULDHs as active sites, accompanied by oxidation state modulation of the active site and interfacial direct O-O coupling (interfacial DOOC). The Au-cluster-loaded ULDHs exhibit excellent activity for the OER, indicating that the interface between gold clusters and ULDHs promotes a novel OER mechanism through interfacial DOOC, achieving outstanding catalytic performance.

Unraveling Molecular Fingerprints of Catalytic Sulfur Poisoning atthe Nanometer Scale with Near-Field Infrared Spectroscopy

Zafer Say et al.

Summary: Understanding catalytic deactivation, such as sulfur poisoning, on metal/metal-oxide interfaces is crucial for developing long-life heterogeneous catalysts. However, studying catalytic sulfur poisoning at the nanometer scale with high chemical resolution has been a challenge. In this study, near-field nano-infrared spectroscopy was used to identify the chemical nature, adsorption sites, and adsorption geometries of sulfur-based catalytic poisons on a Pd/Al2O3 model catalyst at the nanometer scale, providing valuable insights for developing sulfur-resistant catalysts.
