Glutamate receptors and metaplasticity in addiction

Cristiano Chiamulera et al.

Summary: Chronic drug use leads to neuroadaptive disorders in the mesocorticolimbic reward system, affecting glutamate receptor activity and long-term synaptic plasticity processes, resulting in maladaptive drug memories and increased risk of relapse. However, drug-induced metaplasticity also provides a potential target mechanism for intervention.
