The validity and reliability of the PHQ-9 on screening of depression in neurology: a cross sectional study

Yajing Sun et al.

Summary: This study explored the validity and reliability of PHQ-9 for screening depression among patients with neurological disorders and identified factors influencing such patients. The results demonstrated good reliability and validity of PHQ-9 in the Chinese population. Unemployment was found to be a significant risk factor for depression in patients with neurological disorders.

Nomogram for stratifying patients with lifelong premature ejaculation before using the PHQ-9: An observational study

Guangdong Hou et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a nomogram for predicting the risk of PHQ-9(+) in patients with lifelong premature ejaculation (LPE) and discerning those with low risks. By analyzing data from multiple hospitals, the researchers successfully constructed an accurate, reliable, and clinically useful nomogram. The nomogram can improve the accuracy of MDD screening and may enhance therapeutic outcomes for patients in the low-risk group.

The Validity and Reliability of the PHQ-9 and PHQ-2 on Screening for Major Depression in Spanish Speaking Immigrants in Chile: A Cross-Sectional Study

Antonia Errazuriz et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the psychometric properties of PHQ-9 and PHQ-2 in screening for MDD among Spanish-speaking Latin American immigrants in Chile. It also identified the factors associated with a higher risk of MDD. The results showed that both PHQ-9 and PHQ-2 are reliable and valid instruments for screening MDD in this population.

External validation of ABCD series scores for predicting early stroke events following transient ischemic attack in a large nationwide registry

Jia-Xu Weng et al.

Summary: In patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA), traditional scores based on medical history have fair ability for predicting in-hospital stroke events. However, the predictive ability improves when adding infarction on DWI into the scoring system.

Final validation of the mental health screening tool for depressive disorders: A brief online and offline screening tool for major depressive disorder

Kiho Park et al.

Summary: Early screening for depressive disorders is crucial due to its significant global burden of disease and connection to suicides. This study aimed to develop a brief, culturally adapted depression screening tool. Results from the survey and statistical analysis of 527 participants showed that the developed Mental Health Screening Tool for Depressive Disorders (MHS:D) exhibited excellent internal consistency, convergent validity, and model fit. Moreover, the MHS:D accurately screened for major depressive disorder in both online and paper-pencil versions. Item response theory analysis also revealed that the MHS:D provided more information than other depression scales.

Validity of the patient health questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) for the detection of depression in primary care in Colombia

Orlando Scoppetta et al.

Summary: The study indicates that PHQ-2 has certain psychometric properties in the Colombian population and demonstrates acceptable test performance in clinical practice. However, there may be a considerable amount of false positives in the test results, requiring further specialized evaluation for a reliable diagnosis.

The factor structure of major depressive symptoms in a sample of Chinese earthquake survivors

Yajie Bi et al.

Summary: In Chinese earthquake survivors, the MDD symptoms were best captured by a two-factor model consisting of somatic and cognitive/affective factors. These two MDD factors were associated differently with physical and psychosocial health-related quality of life, and the cognitive/affective factor influenced physical health-related quality of life partially through the somatic factor.

The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 vs. the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression in Assessing Major Depressive Disorder

Simeng Ma et al.

Summary: The study compared the effectiveness of HAMD-17, HAMD-6, and PHQ-9 in assessing the severity of depression. Results showed that PHQ-9 had higher reliability, validity, and accuracy in distinguishing the severity of depression compared to HAMD-17 and HAMD-6, making it a suitable alternative for clinical evaluation.
