H. B. Zengin et al.

Summary: This study described the synthesis, characterization, and application of newly prepared sulfathiazole-modified amide/imide co-polymers for the extraction of trace Sb(III) from edible vegetable oils. The method involves pH-dependent complexation and ultrasound-assisted cloud point extraction. The results showed good linear relationships and low detection limits. The method was successfully applied for the analysis of Sb levels in edible vegetable oils.

Clustering and collision of Brownian particles in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence

Tianyi Wu et al.

Summary: The clustering and collision of Brownian particles in free-molecular regime in homogeneous isotropic turbulence are studied using direct numerical simulation and Langevin dynamics. It is found that Brownian motion leads to a more uniform particle distribution, resulting in a plateau on the radial distribution function curve. This anti-clustering effect is significant at small particle separations and the radial relative velocity is enhanced. The collision kernel is formulated based on the asymptotic values of radial distribution function and radial relative velocity at vanishing separation.

Preparation and performance of multi-ionic composite coagulants based on coal gasification coarse slag by one-step acid leaching

Shaocang He et al.

Summary: A series of multi-ionic composite coagulants based on coal gasification coarse slag (CGCS) were successfully prepared through one-step acid leaching process. The optimized Coagulant-3.0 showed excellent removal performance for kaolin simulated wastewater, achieving 98.0% turbidity removal, 98.0% NH4-N removal, and 37.0% CODCr removal, with respective removal efficiencies of 91.8%, 77.4%, and 69.9% for domestic sewage. The composition of Coagulant-3.0 was mainly Fe, Ca, and Al, as confirmed by various characterization techniques. The co-existence of multi-ions played a synergistic role in improving the coagulation performance, and the mechanisms of charge neutralization, adsorption bridging, and sedimentation netting were investigated.

Investigation on the utilization of coal gasification slag in Portland cement: Reaction kinetics and microstructure

Bo Fu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of coal gasification slag (CGS) powder on the reaction kinetics and compressive strength of Portland cement. It is found that a low dosage of CGS powder can promote the hydration reactions of Portland cement, shorten the setting time, and improve the compressive strength.

Recent advancement in the application of hybrid coagulants in coagulation-flocculation of wastewater: A review

Mohammed Shadi S. Abujazar et al.

Summary: This study highlights the recent advanced applications of hybrid coagulants in wastewater treatment. The performance of inorganic/inorganic hybrid coagulation demonstrated high removal efficiency compared to organic removal efficiency. The optimum operational conditions for inorganic/organic coagulants at different pH levels lowered the cost for chemicals used for pH adjustment in treating industrial wastewater.

Red mud-based polyaluminium ferric chloride flocculant: Preparation, characterisation, and flocculation performance

Yong Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, red mud was used as a raw material to extract aluminum and iron, and a highly efficient polyaluminium ferric chloride (PAFC) flocculant was prepared. The flocculation performance of the PAFC under different synthesis and flocculation conditions was investigated. The results showed that the PAFC prepared at specific conditions had the optimum effect and could be used for the treatment of aged landfill leachate.

A progress insight of the formation of hydrogen rich syngas from coal gasification

Tawanda Matamba et al.

Summary: This review paper explores the research progress in the formation of hydrogen rich gas from innovative coal gasification parameters, including the effects of pressure, temperature, catalyst, coal type, and the advantages of coal and biomass co-gasification. The study found that co-gasification and elevated temperatures, pressures, and steam-carbon ratios positively influence hydrogen gas yields, while the presence of different catalysts and sorbents enhances hydrogen concentration in the gaseous products.

Study on the preparation of polysilicate ferric flocculant and its treatment of high turbidity tailings water

Min Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, an inorganic flocculant polysilicate ferric (PSF) was prepared using steel pickling waste liquid and industrial sodium silicate, which showed a network of cross-linked branches structure and good flocculation performance. The Fe/Si molar ratio of 1.5 in PSF exhibited better coagulation effects compared to other coagulants, with larger and denser flocs formed under the same conditions. The formation of hydroxyl iron ions and charge neutralization by positively charged iron polymer are key factors in the high turbidity tailings water treatment process.
