Fabrication and characterization of composite MoS2-TiO2 coating material

Avinash Borgaonkar et al.

Summary: The study aimed to enhance the tribological properties of MoS2 coating by doping TiO2 nanoparticles as a reinforcement material. However, an increase in TiO2 content beyond 15% resulted in a brittle nature of the coating, leading to reduced scratch resistance.

Tribological behavior prediction of composite MoS2-TiO2 coating using Taguchi coupled artificial neural network approach

Avinash Borgaonkar et al.

Summary: Solid lubricants are commonly used in tribological applications due to their excellent lubricating properties in extreme environmental conditions. The tribological performance of lubricated surfaces can be significantly improved by optimizing the coating material properties. In this study, a composite MoS2-TiO2 coating was fabricated and the effects of different parameters on the tribological behavior of the coating were investigated using design of experiment techniques such as Taguchi and artificial neural network (ANN) approach. The study showed that ANN provides more accurate predictions of the responses compared to the Taguchi approach.

Effect of coating material properties on the lubrication performance of rolling contacts under TEHL regime

Avinash Borgaonkar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of mechanical and thermo-physical properties of the coating material on the lubrication performance of rolling contact under the TEHL regime. It is found that the elasticity of the coating affects the pressure intensity, and the coating thickness affects the contact width. Furthermore, materials with lower density, thermal conductivity, and heat capacity act as insulating materials, leading to an increase in lubricant temperature.

Friction and wear behaviour of composite MoS2-TiO2 coating material in dry sliding contact

Avinash Borgaonkar et al.

Summary: In this study, the tribological performance of MoS2 coating was improved by incorporating TiO2 nanoparticles as a reinforcement material. The composite MoS2-TiO2 coating exhibited excellent tribological properties, with the crystallite size and weight percentage of TiO2 significantly impacting the performance. The influence of temperature and coating thickness on the tribological properties of the composite coating was also investigated, showing a decrease in friction coefficient and an increase in wear rate with higher temperatures and coating thickness.
