Effect of C60-SiO2hybrid nanoparticles on thermophysical and tribological properties of a multigrade engine oil: an experimental study

Seyed Hadi Rostamian et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermophysical and tribological properties of a hybrid nanofluid containing fullerene-silica nanoparticles in a multigrade engine oil. The results show that the nanofluid exhibits an increased thermal conductivity and non-Newtonian shear thinning behavior. The concentration of nanoparticles also affects the dynamic viscosity of the nanofluid. The wear rate is reduced compared to the base oil when using the nanofluid. Additionally, a precise equation is presented to predict the viscosity of the nanofluid based on experimental data.

Modified graphene as novel lubricating additive with high dispersion stability in oil

Pu Wu et al.

Summary: Graphene modified by octadecylamine and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, combined with an effective dispersant, showed remarkable dispersion stability in base oil. The addition of the dispersant significantly improved the tribological performance, reducing the coefficient of friction and wear track depth compared to pure PAO-6. Raman spectra and TEM were used to analyze the lubricating mechanisms, focusing on the formation of nanostructured tribo-film induced by sliding.

Summary: The study suggests that increasing the temperature of nanofluid has a minor impact on the volume fraction of nanoparticles, with thermal conductivity increasing by 6% at low concentrations. However, at high concentrations, increasing the temperature further enhances the thermal conductivity.

Functionalization of graphene-based materials: Effective approach for enhancement of tribological performance as lubricant additives

Nurul Athirah Ismail et al.

Summary: The performance of lubricants is greatly influenced by additives, and graphene has been receiving attention as anti-wear or anti-friction additives. Introducing graphene-based materials into lubricants can enhance their fundamental characteristics by improving strength and load bearing capability. Pristine graphene is suitable for applications requiring high electrical conductivity, while functionalized graphene is desirable for stable dispersion, such as in lubricant additives.
