Digital twin-enabled smart modular integrated construction system for on-site assembly

Yishuo Jiang et al.

Summary: Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) is an innovative approach that brings enhanced quality, productivity, and sustainability by transforming cast-in-situ into on-site assembly of prefabricated modules. However, on-site assembly poses challenges due to variability of outside conditions, organization of multi-contractors, and geographic dispersion of activities. To address these challenges, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is adopted, and a digital twin-enabled smart MiC system (DT-SMiCS) is introduced. This system allows for real-time monitoring and remote control of on-site resources through the use of digital twins.

Sources of Uncertainties in Offsite Logistics of Modular Construction for High-Rise Building Projects

Yi Yang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify and categorize sources of uncertainties (SoUs) affecting offsite logistics in high-rise modular building projects in high-density cities. Through a multicase study method, 30 key SoUs were identified in five areas, showing that most uncertainties arise from offsite logistics processes and planning and control systems. Demand-side SoUs were found to have higher probabilities and impacts, while supply-side SoUs, although less probable, could have significant impacts on offsite logistics.

Evaluation of supply chain coordination index in context to Industry 4.0 environment

Rajesh Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: This study identified 32 factors from the literature review, further categorized into six clusters for evaluating the coordination index of a supply chain. The research illustrated a comprehensive approach to quantify coordination in supply chains for effective benchmarking of supply chain performance in the Industry 4.0 era. It was found that top management focuses more on organizational issues to improve coordination in the supply chain, rather than on Industry 4.0 technologies.
