Stochastic simulation of velocity pulses of near-fault ground motions based on multivariate copula modeling

Yongbo Peng et al.

Summary: Studying velocity pulses modeling of near-fault ground motions is an important topic in earthquake engineering. This study proposes a stochastic simulation method for velocity pulses based on Gabor wavelet modeling and probabilistic correlation analysis. The method effectively represents the probabilistic correlation between model parameters. The simulated velocity pulses of near-fault ground motions show good agreement with the actual records, providing a physical basis for addressing the dependence structure among variables.

Developing region-specific fragility function for predicting probability of liquefaction induced ground failure

Yixun Ge et al.

Summary: In this study, a Hierarchical Bayesian Model (HBM) is proposed for developing region-specific fragility functions based on the liquefaction potential index (LPI). The HBM can systematically consider the effects of the amount and characteristics of the local data as well as data from other regions. The results show that the HBM outperforms the lumped parameter model (LPM) and can provide accurate fragility functions even with limited region-specific data.

Data-driven reliability assessment with scarce samples considering multidimensional dependence

Haihe Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a data-driven method for assessing reliability using scarce input dataset with multidimensional correlation. The bootstrap resampling algorithm is used to infer the distribution parameters as interval parameters. Vine copula theory is utilized to construct the joint PDF of input variables, and MLE and AIC analysis are employed to select optimal copulas. The failure probability bounds are calculated using the constructed joint PDF with interval distribution parameters by the AK method combining the SGI method.

A New Method to Assess Thick, Hard Roof-Induced Rock Burst Risk Based on Mining Speed Effect on Key Energy Strata

Wenlong Li et al.

Summary: The mining speed has obvious effects on the rock burst risk, and an unreasonable mining speed can cause rock burst accidents. This study proposes the key energy strata principle and a new assessment method using an energy index to evaluate the rock burst risk considering the mining speed effect. The application results demonstrate that the method provides a mining speed that meets the demands of safe and high-efficiency production.
