An updated review on behavior of domestic quail with reference to the negative effect of heat stress

Fiza Batool et al.

Summary: Japanese quail is a bird species that originated from the wildlife environment and was first domesticated in Japan in 1595. It has characteristics such as rapid growth, high egg production, low space requirements, small size, good reproductive potential, short life cycle, disease resistance, early sexual maturity, better laying ability, and shorter hatching time compared to other poultry species. Heat stress has been found to be a major limiting factor in quail production, impacting bird welfare, meat quality, productivity, and egg characteristics. However, quail have methods to cope with extreme temperatures. This review provides insights into the quail-based poultry sector, including its characteristics as a production unit and as an animal model for laboratory experiments. It also discusses the domestication process and the impact of heat stress on quail production characteristics.

The impact of curcumin on livestock and poultry animal's performance and management of insect pests

Anjana Sureshbabu et al.

Summary: Plant-based natural products, such as curcumin, can be used as alternatives to antibiotics for promoting growth in livestock and poultry production, and as alternatives to synthetic chemical insecticides for managing insect pests. Curcumin, a natural compound from turmeric, has been found to have therapeutic benefits and can improve livestock and poultry production performances and control insect pests. Recent studies have shown that curcumin is an effective feed additive for animal growth and disease resistance, and it also has insecticidal activity for reducing agricultural insect pests and insect vector-borne human diseases.

Research progress on bird eggshell quality defects: a review

Xue Cheng et al.

Summary: The quality of eggshells decreases as the laying cycles of chickens increase, which not only affects consumer preference and producers' profitability, but also causes financial losses for farmers and food security concerns for consumers. Defects in eggshell structure, such as speckled, translucent, pimpled, and soft eggshells, result in reduced eggshell quality. Improvements can be made through selective breeding and environmental control, which include temperature, moisture, and diet formula balance.

Identification of biomarkers co-associated with M1 macrophages, ferroptosis and cuproptosis in alcoholic hepatitis by bioinformatics and experimental verification

Shasha Hou et al.

Summary: In this study, potential biomarkers co-associated with M1 macrophages, ferroptosis, and cuproptosis in alcoholic hepatitis (AH) patients were identified through gene expression analysis and immune cell infiltration level. ALDOA, COL3A1, LUM, THBS2, and TIMP1 were discovered as potential biomarkers through validation in a mouse model and additional datasets, suggesting their promise for the treatment and diagnosis of AH.

The effects of Ginger (Zingiber officinale) roots on the reproductive aspects in male Japanese Quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

Mostafa Galal Abdelfattah et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the improving effects of ginger roots on the reproductive aspects of Japanese male quails. The results showed that the dietary inclusion of ginger roots, especially at a dose of 15g/kg feed, significantly improved ejaculate volume, sperm concentration, motility, viability, and sperm-egg penetration. Ginger roots also had a positive effect on biochemical tests and histological examination. These findings highlight the importance of adding ginger roots to the diet formulation for improving male quail reproductive performance.

Application of botanical products as nutraceutical feed additives for improving poultry health and production

Karim El-Sabrout et al.

Summary: The poultry industry faces challenges such as feedstuff availability, banning of antibiotics, and environmental stressors. To sustain the industry, it is necessary to include nutraceuticals in the diet. Botanical products, such as fenugreek seeds and ginger roots, have gained popularity due to their benefits in nutrition and therapeutic properties.

MyD88 in myofibroblasts regulates aerobic glycolysis-driven hepatocarcinogenesis via ERK-dependent PKM2 nuclear relocalization and activation

Qi Yuan et al.

Summary: MyD88 in myofibroblasts plays a critical role in promoting hepatocellular carcinoma by affecting aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells. MyD88 deficiency in myofibroblasts attenuates liver fibrosis and liver cancer tissue. Mechanistically, MyD88 signaling in myofibroblasts increases the secretion of CCL20, which promotes aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells. This process is dependent on the CCR6 receptor and ERK/PKM2 signaling.

Effects of novel microecologics combined with traditional Chinese medicine and probiotics on growth performance and health of broilers

Jin Gao et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel microecological preparation called Chinese medicine-probiotic compound microecological preparation (CPCMP) was prepared using 5 traditional Chinese medicine herbs fermented by Aspergillus niger and a compound probiotic. The effects of CPCMP on the growth performance, immune function, and intestinal health of broilers were investigated. The results showed that CPCMP improved the growth performance, serum parameters, immune function, and intestinal health of broilers, and exhibited a synergistic effect of traditional Chinese medicines and probiotics.
