Melatonin induces improved protection against Botrytis cinerea in cherry tomato fruit by activating salicylic acid signaling pathway

Shenge Li et al.

Summary: Melatonin treatment in cherry tomato fruit enhances disease resistance by inhibiting gray mold development, increasing SA accumulation and reactive oxygen species burst, up-regulating defense gene expression, and increasing endogenous melatonin content. However, the involvement of salicylic acid is necessary for melatonin-induced disease resistance.

PpybZIP43 contributes to sucrose synthesis in pear fruits by activating PpySPS3 expression and interacts with PpySTOP1

Huping Zhang et al.

Summary: This study characterized a transcription factor gene, PpybZIP43, from pear fruits and found that its overexpression increased sucrose content and promoted the expression of sucrose phosphate synthase genes. It also demonstrated the interaction between PpybZIP43 and other proteins involved in sucrose synthesis and accumulation.

R2R3-MYB Transcription Factor MdMYB73 Confers Increased Resistance to the Fungal Pathogen Botryosphaeria dothidea in Apples via the Salicylic Acid Pathway

Kai-Di Gu et al.

Summary: The MYB transcription factor MdMYB73 was found to enhance resistance to Botryosphaeria dothidea by regulating the salicylic acid pathway. It was also discovered that MdMYB73 interacts with MdWRKY31 to further enhance resistance in apples against B. dothidea.

Butylated Hydroxytoluene Induced Resistance Against Botryosphaeria dothidea in Apple Fruit

Yan Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential plant activator butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) was evaluated for its effectiveness against Botryosphaeria dothidea in postharvest apple fruits. The results showed that BHT treatment can induce strong resistance in apple fruits against B. dothidea by increasing the activities of defensive enzymes and activating the SA signaling pathway. This suggests that BHT treatment could be a promising alternative strategy to control apple ring rot in postharvest fruits.

CsMYB96 enhances citrus fruit resistance against fungal pathogen by activating salicylic acid biosynthesis and facilitating defense metabolite accumulation

Mingfei Zhang et al.

Summary: CsMYB96 transcription factor mediates SA signaling to enhance fungal pathogen resistance in citrus fruit. It activates various metabolism pathways and increases the accumulation of defense metabolites. Additionally, CsMYB96 directly activates the transcription of key genes involved in SA signaling to regulate disease response.

Microbial ecology to support integrative efficacy improvement of biocontrol agents for postharvest diseases management

Abdoul Razack Sare et al.

Summary: The use of biocontrol agents (BCA) to manage postharvest diseases on fruits and vegetables is a potentially sustainable method, but faces reliability issues in practical conditions. Strategies to enhance BCA antagonism activity have had limited success, and integrating beneficial microbial communities may be a promising solution for improving the reliability of BCA in real conditions.
