Bending properties and design strength of reconstituted bamboo at different temperatures

Kunpeng Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, the bending strength and deformation of reconstituted bamboo beams at different temperatures were measured. The results showed that the bending failure pattern of reconstituted bamboo intensified with increasing temperature, leading to a decrease in ultimate bearing capacity and flexural modulus. The thermal softening effect significantly influenced the plastic behavior of bamboo.

Experimental characterization of creep behavior of laminated bamboo composites based on stepped isothermal method

Yanyan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the accelerated test using the stepped isothermal method (SIM) was used to characterize the long-term compressive behavior of laminated bamboo. The selection of the end and beginning segments in the rescaling process for generating a creep master curve using the SIM data was found to affect the determination of virtual time, leading to errors in predicting long-term behavior. It was recommended to use a 40% end segment and a 30% beginning segment to build a more accurate master curve. The generated master curves showed repeatability and matched well with the conventional creep results, indicating that SIM is a reliable tool for accelerated testing of the long-term behavior of laminated bamboo. In addition, isochronous stress-creep strain curves were constructed based on the master curves at different loadings to determine stress levels for structural design.

Anisotropy attenuation of reconstituted bamboo lumber by orthogonal layup process

Zhenyu Qiu et al.

Summary: Current reconstituted bamboo lumber materials have significant anisotropy, with the strength along the fiber direction much stronger than that perpendicular to the fiber. A new cross laminated bamboo (CLB) was designed to reduce the anisotropy of bamboo products, and its four-point bending properties were investigated. The CLB exhibited a reduced ratio of parallel strength to transverse strength in bending, and a laminated composite theory with strain failure criterion accurately predicted its flexural failure. With balanced mechanical properties in all directions, the CLB could be widely applied in building engineering as plated structures.

Fire resistance evaluation of laminated bamboo lumber column under eccentric compression

Zhaoyan Cui et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the load-bearing capacity and fire resistance of laminated bamboo lumber (LBL) column under eccentric compression. The study proposes a bilinear relationship between charring depth and exposure time, considering the falling off of the charring layers. The Ultimate State Base Model (USBM) and reduced cross-section method are introduced to calculate the fire resistance of LBL column, which align well with the experimental results.

Study of Burning Behaviors and Fire Risk of Flame Retardant Plywood by Cone Calorimeter and TG Test

Liping Yu et al.

Summary: The use of a flame retardant containing multiple compounds can significantly improve the fire resistance of plywood, reduce heat release and smoke emissions during combustion, and form a more stable char. The combustion process of treated plywood is slower, reducing the risk of fire incidents.
