Development of an Injection Molding Process for Long Glass Fiber-Reinforced Phenolic Resins

Robert Maertens et al.

Summary: Glass fiber-reinforced phenolic resins are suitable substitutes for aluminum die-cast materials due to their ability to meet high thermomechanical and chemical demands. By increasing the length of glass fibers and developing a novel mixing element, the mechanical properties of the resins can be improved. Despite the reduction in fiber length, the mechanical characterization shows an increase in tensile strength for long fiber-reinforced materials.

The effect of incorporation of hybrid silica and cobalt ferrite nanofillers on the mechanical characteristics of glass fiber-reinforced polymeric composites

M. Megahed et al.

Summary: Hybrid nanofillers loading has been used to fabricate multifunctional composites, with silica and cobalt ferrite nanoparticles combined to form a new hybrid composite structure in this study. The resulting hybrid nanocomposites showed improved mechanical properties compared to individually loaded nanoparticles or pristine composite materials. The SEM images revealed good fiber/matrix interfacial bonding in the hybrid composite.
