Synthesis and characterization of natural fibers reinforced alginate hydrogel fibers loaded with diclofenac sodium for wound dressings

Farooq Azam et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of natural fiber-reinforced composite hydrogel fibers for wound dressing application. Kapok and hemp fibers were used as reinforcements to improve the strength of the hydrogel fibers. The prepared composite hydrogel fibers were characterized using FTIR, SEM, and DSC. The results showed that the reinforcement of the fibers enhanced their strength, with hemp fibers exhibiting better mechanical properties.

A Fibrous Nonwoven Hydrogel Composite for Shoe Insole with Enhanced Mechanical and Comfort Properties

Farooq Azam et al.

Summary: A shoe insole material was developed by combining eco-friendly natural fibers with alginate hydrogel. The composite material was synthesized using the sol-gel technique by cross-linking bamboo/hemp and Tencel/flax nonwoven with alginate solution. The composite showed improved properties such as tensile strength, water absorption, and antibacterial activity compared to traditional materials.

The Role and Applications of Aerogels in Textiles

Farooq Azam et al.

Summary: Textiles with porous structures are important for comfort, thermal insulation, and filtration capabilities. Aerogels, with their ultrahigh porosity and good thermal insulation properties, have potential as insulation materials. However, pure aerogels are brittle and have poor mechanical properties. Textile reinforced aerogel composites can provide flexibility and strength, while imparting a nanoporous structure to textiles. This review discusses techniques for producing porous structures in textiles and synthesizing textile reinforced aerogel composites for filtration and thermal insulation applications.

Synthesis and Characterization of Superabsorbent Cellulose-Based Hydrogel for Agriculture Application

Dipankar Das et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt (CMCNa) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC)-based biodegradable hydrogels using citric acid (CA) as a crosslinker, with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) incorporated into the hydrogel matrix. Results show that using CNCs as reinforcing agents decreases the tensile strength of hydrogels.

Shear viscoelasticity of electrospinning PCL nanofibers reinforced alginate hydrogels

Lu Pang et al.

Summary: The limited self-repair capacity of articular cartilage can be improved by using biomimetic scaffolds such as PNRAHCs, which have better shear mechanical properties. The addition of PCL nanofibers into alginate hydrogels can enhance their shear viscoelasticity and make them potential scaffolds for repairing fibrocartilage tissues.
