Conducting polymeric nanocomposites: A review in solar fuel applications

Mariyappan Shanmugam et al.

Summary: In the field of photocatalysis, research has been conducted in the last few decades to explore sustainable ways for fuel production. Conducting polymers have stood out as highly efficient photocatalysts due to their properties such as high light absorption efficiency, stability, tunable electronic characteristics, and cost effectiveness. By combining conducting polymers with various semiconducting nanomaterials, photocatalytic composites have been developed for CO2 photoreduction and water splitting in fuel production. The addition of conducting polymers has shown to improve the photocatalytic activity, enhance substrate adsorption, widen the light absorption region, and prevent photocorrosion. This review provides a comprehensive reference on how conducting polymers contribute to the efficiency of composite materials and briefly discusses the current challenges and future perspectives of polymeric catalysts.

Review of Recent Developments of Glass Transition in PVC Nanocomposites

Jolanta Tomaszewska et al.

Summary: This review discusses the impact of various nanoadditives on the glass transition temperature (Tg) of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), with a focus on how nanofillers affect Tg through experimental techniques. The increase or decrease in Tg is associated with factors such as the origin, size, chemical modification, and incorporation of nanofillers in the PVC matrix. Further research on the effect of nanofillers on PVC Tg is suggested for future investigation.

Effect of polyaniline content and protonating dopants on electroconductive composites

Katarzyna Bednarczyk et al.

Summary: Elastic constructive elements prepared by electrospinning using polyacrylonitrile/polyaniline (PAN/PANI) electroconductive composites were studied for their thermal and mechanical properties. Composites doped with sulfuric acid exhibited the highest conductivity, while composites doped with hydrochloric acid showed the highest thermal stability. All prepared composites showed good thermal stability, with T-5 values increasing with PANI content.

Self Standing Mats of Blended Polyaniline Produced by Electrospinning

Antonio Fotia et al.

Summary: Nanofibers of PANI doped with HCSA and blended with polymers like PMMA and PVAc were fabricated using electrospinning. SEM and TGA were used to characterize the morphology and thermal stability, and an extensive study was conducted to understand copolymer influence on film properties. PVAc copolymer showed significantly higher conductivity than the PMMA system. Hybrid fibers based on PANI/PVAc/graphene oxide and PANI/PVAc/iron oxide were also produced and characterized to improve electrochemical features. The obtained mats have potential applications in sensors, health, smart devices, and multifunctional textile materials.
