Institutional quality and economic growth: Evidence from South-Asian countries

Improvement in corruption control, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, and rule of law also enhances financial institution efficiency.

The role of local institutions in cooperative banks? efficiency. The case of Italy

Summary: This paper examines the impact of institutional quality, particularly control of corruption, on the cost efficiency of Italian cooperative banks. Using Stochastic Frontier Analysis, the study finds that better institutions are associated with improved bank cost efficiency. The findings highlight the importance of implementing strategies to control corruption and enhance law enforcement at the local level for reducing bank operating costs and minimizing moral hazard problems.

Resource curse versus resource blessing: New evidence from resource capital data

Summary: This study investigates the association between natural capital and economic development by analyzing panel data from various countries. The findings suggest that natural capital has a significant and positive effect on economic performance. Additionally, institutional quality indicators are also important drivers of economic growth. The study challenges the resource curse hypothesis and supports the resource blessing hypothesis. The results hold true for both developing and developed economies. This research contributes important policy implications and expands the empirical literature on the relationship between resource abundance and economic growth by incorporating wealth and capital data.

The impact of soft information and institutional quality on foreign bank efficiency-Evidence from ASEAN-5 countries

Summary: This study provides evidence on the impact of soft information on foreign bank efficiency in the ASEAN-5 market after the Asian crisis. The analysis disaggregates soft information into five types and examines how host-country institutional quality mitigates the impact. The results show that soft information does affect foreign banks' efficiencies in a recognizable way, but host-country institutional quality significantly lessens this effect.
