Sustaining the T-cell activity in xenografted psoriasis skin

Pernille Kristine Fisker Christensen et al.

Summary: Xenografting of lesional skin from psoriasis patients onto human IL-2 NOG mice increases human CD3(+) cells in the grafts, lymph nodes and blood, and higher levels of disease-relevant human cytokines were observed. However, the model lacks epidermis and ustekinumab showed no efficacy, indicating a need for further investigations and validation to capture more aspects of psoriasis.

Interleukin-18 and IL-18BP in inflammatory dermatological diseases

Xiaoyun Wang et al.

Summary: IL-18 is an interferon-gamma inducer belonging to the IL-1 family. Its activity is regulated by its antagonist, IL-18 binding protein (IL-18BP). IL-18 plays a crucial role in host immunity, and IL-18BP acts as a negative feedback inhibitor of IL-18-mediated immunity. IL-18BP has potential as a therapeutic target.

Genetic variants in IL-17A rs10484879 and serum levels of IL-17A are associated with psoriasis risk

Burak Aksan et al.

Summary: The TT genotype and T allele of IL-17A rs10484879 are associated with an increased risk of psoriasis in the Turkish population. This study suggests that IL-17A polymorphism may play a role in the pathogenesis of the disease. The IL-17A serum levels were also found to be associated with the genotype distribution.

Serum immunoglobulin E and Interleukin-17 levels in patients with chronic plaque psoriasis: A case-control study

Amany A. Nassar et al.

Summary: By comparing the levels of IgE and IL-17 in the sera of patients with chronic plaque psoriasis to healthy subjects, it was found that psoriatic patients had significantly higher levels of IgE and IL-17. However, no significant correlation was found between IgE and IL-17 concentrations in psoriatic patients.

Interleukin-18 cytokine in immunity, inflammation, and autoimmunity: Biological role in induction, regulation, and treatment

Stella Amarachi Ihim et al.

Summary: IL-18, a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine, plays a crucial role in various autoimmune diseases. Drugs targeting IL-18 have shown partial effectiveness or complete ineffectiveness in clinical studies, possibly due to the involvement of other cytokines and proteins in the inflammatory signaling pathway along with IL-18.

Profiling Serum Cytokines and Anticytokine Antibodies in Psoriasis Patients

Dan Hong et al.

Summary: Elevated levels of cytokines IL-12B and Th17 cytokines were found in psoriasis patients. Bioactive IL-17A was identified in some patients and was positively correlated with disease severity. Levels of anti-cytokine antibodies IL-22 were moderately lower and anti-IL-15 were slightly higher in psoriasis patients. The ratios of antibodies to cytokines varied with the pattern of cytokines.

Correlation analysis between IL-35, IL-36γ, CCL27 and psoriasis vulgaris

Jiao Chen et al.

Summary: The serum levels of IL-35, IL-36 gamma, and CCL27 cytokines were evaluated in patients with psoriasis, showing correlations with disease severity. IL-36 gamma and CCL27 may act as pro-inflammatory factors in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, while IL-35 may function as an anti-inflammatory factor.

The Role of Natural Killer Cells in Autoimmune Diseases

Umut Can Kucuksezer et al.

Summary: NK cells are a subset of innate lymphoid cells that play important roles in anti-tumor immune responses and immune regulation, with different subgroups showing cytotoxic functions or cytokine production. Their activation is influenced by a variety of factors, including cell surface receptors and cytokines, and their dysregulation can contribute to various immune-mediated diseases. Further research on NK cell biology and their potential therapeutic applications is necessary for better understanding and treatment of inflammatory disorders.
