Evaluation of early antibiotic use in patients with non-severe COVID-19 without bacterial infection

Xiaoxv Yin et al.

Summary: This study found that early use of antibiotics in non-severe COVID-19 patients without bacterial infection is associated with increased risk of progression to severe COVID-19 and prolonged hospital stay, but not with mortality. The results suggest that antibiotic use should be avoided unless absolutely necessary in this patient population.

Cancer-Related Characteristics Associated With Invasive Mechanical Ventilation or In-Hospital Mortality in Patients With COVID-19 Admitted to ICU: A Cohort Multicenter Study

Pedro Caruso et al.

Summary: In patients with active cancer and COVID-19 admitted to ICU, poor performance status was associated with in-hospital mortality but not with mechanical ventilation use. Cancer status, cancer type, metastatic tumor, lung cancer, and recent chemotherapy or immunotherapy were not associated with invasive mechanical ventilation use or in-hospital mortality.

Summary: This study found that patients with cancer were more susceptible to COVID-19 and had a higher mortality rate, especially lung cancer patients. The findings suggest that clinicians should pay more attention to cancer patients diagnosed with COVID-19 for their clinical management.
