Inhibiting Glucose Metabolism By miR-34a and miR-125b Protects Against Hyperglycemia-Induced Cardiomyocyte Cell Death

Chao-rui Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that miR-34a and miR-125b are downregulated in diabetic hearts, while rat cardiomyocytes exhibit increased glucose metabolism under high glucose conditions. Overexpression of miR-125b and miR-34a can prevent hyperglycemia-induced cardiomyocyte cell death.

Intermittent high glucose induces pyroptosis of rat H9C2 cardiomyocytes via sodium-glucose cotransporter 1

Qian Chai et al.

Summary: The study found that intermittent high glucose treatment further inhibited proliferation and promoted cell death of H9C2 cardiomyocytes. IHG treatment upregulated higher levels of NLRP3 and ASC, and increased higher levels of activated caspase-1 and gasdermin D compared to CHG treatment.

Mitophagy in Diabetic Cardiomyopathy: Roles and Mechanisms

Haoxiao Zheng et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown the importance of mitochondrial dysfunction in the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy, with mitophagy playing a key role in this process. However, excessive mitophagy may exacerbate cardiac damage, highlighting the essential balance between mitochondrial biogenesis and mitophagy for maintaining cellular metabolism in the diabetic heart.
