Recent achievements in R&D on fibre optics current sensor for ITER

Andrei Gusarov et al.

Summary: ITER is expected to achieve new milestones on the way to commercial fusion energy production, and one of the innovative diagnostics is the Fibre Optics Current Sensor (FOCS). This paper focuses on the front-end design of the FOCS and provides experimental results indicating that the FOCS fibre, despite being exposed to high temperatures and radiation doses, can still survive the ITER environment without critical degradation, thanks to the system design operating in an inert gas atmosphere.

Evaluation of plasma current quench time using a discrete Rogowski coil in the KSTAR tokamak

Jun Gyo Bak et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the measurement of plasma current in the vacuum vessel of the KSTAR tokamak. By using local magnetic field measurements and subtracting the eddy current induced by the tokamak vessel, a more accurate evaluation of the plasma current can be obtained.

Physics design of new lower tungsten divertor for long-pulse high-power operations in EAST

G. S. Xu et al.

Summary: A new lower tungsten divertor has been developed and installed in the EAST tokamak to increase power handling capability, aiming at achieving long-pulse H-mode operations. The 'corner slot' divertor concept allows for stable detachment operation in a full metal wall environment.

Investigation of annular/central collapse events triggered by the double tearing modes in EAST

Ming Xu et al.

Summary: The annular/central collapses of electron temperature in the EAST tokamak have been studied, with precursor modes being excited before these events. Multiple magnetic island chains coexist for high-Z impurity concentrations. Reproduction of annular/central collapse events is achieved through magnetic reconnection of m/n = 2/1 double tearing modes. Different penetration depths of high-Z impurity density play a key role in exciting these events, along with the establishment of reversed magnetic shear.

Disruption prediction on EAST tokamak using a deep learning algorithm

B. H. Guo et al.

Summary: The study utilized an LSTM model for disruption prediction on the EAST tokomak, showing slightly lower performance compared to the CNN model but earlier warning time. By adding more fast bolometer channels, the model performance improved with decreased false positive rate.

Suppression and mitigation of inter-ELM high-frequency Alfven-like mode by resonant magnetic perturbation in EAST

Jiquan Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study conducted on the EAST tokamak, for the first time, suppression and mitigation of a high-frequency Alfven-like mode (HFAM) between type-I edge localized modes (ELMs) during ELM mitigation by resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) was observed. The HFAM is located near the edge pedestal region and can be fully suppressed when the RMP amplitude exceeds a threshold, reducing the pedestal height induced by RMP. When using n = 3 RMP, the mode is localized toroidally at specific phase depending on the phase of applied RMP.
