Aggregation of graphene oxide and its environmental implications in the aquatic environment

Jawad Ali et al.

Summary: Graphene oxide (GO) has unique characteristics and significant potential in academic and industrial applications. The aggregation of GO in aquatic environments is mainly influenced by the properties of nanoparticles and complex water chemistry. However, a systematic study considering the various factors and variations in GO properties is still lacking. More research is needed to understand the stability, interaction with other nanomaterials, and impact of GO in the environment.

Graphene oxide affected root growth, anatomy, and nutrient uptake in alfalfa

Shulan Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of graphene oxide (GO) on the growth, structure, and physiology of alfalfa roots. The results showed that high levels of GO significantly reduced root length, diameter, volume, dry weight, number of lateral roots, and root activity, as well as vascular cylinder diameter, periderm thickness, vessel diameter, and phellem thickness. The presence of GO also inhibited the uptake of essential nutrients by the roots.

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles potentially regulate the mechanism(s) for photosynthetic attributes, genotoxicity, antioxidants defense machinery, and phytochelatins synthesis in relation to hexavalent chromium toxicity in Helianthus annuus L.

Dharmendra Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the toxic mechanisms induced by chromium (VI) and the potential ameliorative effects of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) on its toxicity. The results show that chromium (VI) exposure negatively affects photosynthetic attributes, DNA damage, antioxidative defense mechanisms, and phytochelatin synthesis. However, exposure to TiO2 NPs alleviates chromium (VI) toxicity by regulating these factors and reducing the accumulation of chromium.

Synthesis of Liquid Gallium@Reduced Graphene Oxide Core-Shell Nanoparticles with Enhanced Photoacoustic and Photothermal Performance

Yingyue Zhang et al.

Summary: This report presents nanoparticles composed of a liquid gallium core with a reduced graphene oxide (RGO) shell, which exhibit high photothermal and photoacoustic performance for imaging applications. The Ga@RGO nanoparticles show significant enhancement in photoacoustic signals compared to bare gallium nanoparticles and gold nanorods. They not only serve as contrast agents for photoacoustic imaging, but also open up new possibilities for the design of liquid metal-based nanomaterials.

An ultra-sensitive and selective AChE based colorimetric detection of malathion using silver nanoparticle-graphene oxide (Ag-GO) nanocomposite

A. Vinotha Alex et al.

Summary: In this study, a rapid and precise sensing strategy based on AChE inhibition was proposed for the detection of malathion using Ag-GO and ATCh. The nanocomposite of Ag-GO was successfully developed for the rapid and accurate detection of malathion, with good recovery rates in different samples.

Graphene oxide exhibited positive effects on the growth of Aloe vera L

Xiao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that graphene oxide (GO) promotes the growth of Aloe vera by stimulating root growth and photosynthesis, with the best efficiency observed at a concentration of 50 mg/L. GO enhanced the photosynthetic capacity of leaves, increased yield, morphological characters, and nutrient contents of leaves without reducing the bioactive compound aloin. Despite increased electrolyte leakage and MDA content at high concentrations, GO treatment did not affect root antioxidant enzymes activity or root vigor, suggesting a non-typical stress response.
