Processing of a plant peptide hormone precursor facilitated by posttranslational tyrosine sulfation

Stefanie Royek et al.

Summary: This study investigates the proteolytic processing and posttranslational modification of the TWS1 peptide regulator in Arabidopsis thaliana. The results demonstrate the critical role of tyrosine sulfation in mediating processing specificity and peptide maturation. The findings provide insight into the contribution of posttranslational modifications to peptide bioactivity.

A peptide-mediated, multilateral molecular dialogue for the coordination of pollen wall formation

Jekaterina Truskina et al.

Summary: The surface of pollen grains is strengthened by components produced by tapetum cells, which are regulated by the GASSHO receptor-like kinase pathway. The pathway is controlled by sulfated peptides and requires the action of subtilases. Three types of cells coordinate to deposit pollen wall through molecular dialogue.

GIGANTEA regulates lateral root formation by modulating auxin signaling in Arabidopsis thaliana

Anamika Singh

Summary: Lateral root formation is a vital process in plant root development, regulated by the plant hormone auxin. Recent research has identified the key role of GI in regulating lateral root formation in Arabidopsis, by controlling the auxin signaling pathway. Furthermore, GI is also connected to the circadian clock signaling, light signaling, and flowering time control pathways.

In Silico Identification of the Full Complement of Subtilase-Encoding Genes and Characterization of the Role of TaSBT1.7 in Resistance Against Stripe Rust in Wheat

Yuheng Yang et al.

Summary: Plant subtilases (SBTs) are a diverse family of serine peptidases with various biological functions. This study identified 255 TaSBT genes in wheat and found considerable sequence diversification and functional specialization within the TaSBT family. Among the TaSBT genes, TaSBT1.7 was shown to play a positive role in plant defense against wheat stripe rust pathogen.

Phytosulfokine (PSK) precursor processing by subtilase SBT3.8 and PSK signaling improve drought stress tolerance in Arabidopsis

Nils Stuehrwohldt et al.

Summary: Increasing drought stress poses a severe threat to agricultural productivity, but plants have evolved mechanisms to increase stress tolerance through the production of peptide signals. The expression of phytosulfokine (PSK) peptide precursor genes and subtilisin-like serine proteases play a significant role in response to osmotic stress.

Genome-Wide Investigation of SBT Family Genes in Pineapple and Functional Analysis of AcoSBT1.12 in Floral Transition

Xingyue Jin et al.

Summary: This study identified 54 pineapple SBT genes and found that AcoSBT1.12 plays a role in floral transition, as demonstrated by delayed flowering time in transgenic Arabidopsis overexpressing AcoSBT1.12. Analysis also showed that the expression patterns of different AcoSBTs varied in different above-ground tissues, providing insight into the potential functions of SBT in monocots. Yeast-two hybrid analysis revealed potential interactions between AcoSBT1.12 and several other proteins.

ERF4 and MYB52 transcription factors play antagonistic roles in regulating homogalacturonan de-methylesterification in Arabidopsis seed coat mucilage

Anming Ding et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the demethylesterification of homogalacturonan in the mucilage of Arabidopsis thaliana seeds is regulated by the AP2/ERF transcription factor ERF4. ERF4 positively regulates the degree of demethylesterification by suppressing the expression of PME inhibitor genes and a protease gene. ERF4 and MYB52 antagonize each other's DNA-binding ability through physical interaction to regulate downstream gene expression in opposite directions.
