Multi-omics data integration reveals link between epigenetic modifications and gene expression in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris) in response to cold

Sindy Gutschker et al.

Summary: In this study, cold treatment led to a significant reduction in DNA methylation levels, particularly affecting methylation in the CHH context, accompanied by downregulation of the chromomethyltransferase CMT2 and upregulation of genes involved in active DNA demethylation. The integration of methylomic and transcriptomic data revealed that epigenetic modifications correlated with changes in the expression of genes involved in DNA methylation and demethylation, suggesting that transcriptional responses precede global DNA hypomethylation in response to cold stress.

Hydrogen Peroxide is Involved in Salicylic Acid-Induced Adventitious Rooting in Cucumber Under Cadmium Stress

Wenting Gong et al.

Summary: The study revealed that under Cd stress, salicylic acid (SA) may play an important role in promoting adventitious root formation (ARF) in cucumber by enhancing endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) levels. Additionally, SA also affects pectin content and pectin methylesterification degree in cucumber plants under Cd stress.

Strigolactone is involved in nitric oxide-enhanced the salt resistance in tomato seedlings

Huwei Liu et al.

Summary: Both strigolactones and nitric oxide have synergistic effects on tomato salt tolerance, and the synthesis inhibitor of strigolactones can suppress the promoting effect of nitric oxide on tomato growth. Under salt stress, nitric oxide and strigolactones treatment can increase the content of endogenous strigolactones in tomato seedlings and improve the photosynthetic pigment content, antioxidant capacity, and gene expression levels.

A comprehensive analysis of Trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) gene for salinity tolerance in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Tapan Kumar et al.

Summary: Soil salinity adversely affects crop cultivation, especially legumes. This study focuses on the Trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS) gene and its role in regulating salt tolerance. By evaluating and analyzing morphological and molecular genetic variability, as well as allelic variations, this study identifies functional distinctions among chickpea genotypes. The results suggest that certain genotypes exhibit strong salt tolerance and can be used as reliable donors in chickpea improvement programs for salinity tolerance.

Expression Patterns of DNA Methylation and Demethylation Genes during Plant Development and in Response to Phytohormones

Morgan Bennett et al.

Summary: DNA methylation and demethylation play crucial roles in regulating gene expression during plant growth and development, as well as in response to various phytohormone treatments. The study showed that genes involved in DNA methylation and demethylation have distinct spatial and temporal expression patterns in different plant tissues, and phytohormones can alter DNA methylation status in specific and redundant ways. Overall, the results suggest that DNA methylation and demethylation pathways act synergistically and antagonistically in various tissues and in response to phytohormone treatments, contributing to tissue differentiation and development through hormone-linked methylome regulation mechanisms.

Hydrogen sulfide reduced colour change in Lanzhou lily-bulb scales

Dengjing Huang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that hydrogen sulfide plays a key role in reducing the color change of Lanzhou lily during storage by regulating the content of anthocyanins. A concentration of 0.8mM NaHS was found to be optimal in improving the appearance quality of the scales and reducing total anthocyanin content. The results suggest that H2S can decrease color change by modulating key enzyme activity and gene expression in the anthocyanin synthesis pathway.
