Assessing the sensitivity of alfalfa yield potential to climate impact under future scenarios in Iran

Shabnam Pourshirazi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of climate change on alfalfa crop in Iran using simulation models and global circulation models. Despite increasing temperatures, the forage yield of alfalfa is projected to increase in most regions due to factors such as spring regrowth, increased cuttings, extended growing season, and positive effects of CO2 on photosynthesis. Climatic changes have significant effects on the irrigation water requirement of alfalfa, which is directly related to its yield.

Apple B-box protein BBX37 regulates jasmonic acid mediated cold tolerance through the JAZ-BBX37-ICE1-CBF pathway and undergoes MIEL1-mediated ubiquitination and degradation

Jian-Ping An et al.

Summary: In apple, a novel B-box protein MdBBX37 positively regulates JA-mediated cold-stress resistance by activating the transcription of MdCBF1 and MdCBF4 and enhancing the transcriptional activity of MdICE1 on MdCBF1. Furthermore, two JA signaling repressors, MdJAZ1 and MdJAZ2, negatively regulate JA-mediated cold tolerance by interacting with MdBBX37. E3 ligase MdMIEL1 reduces MdBBX37-improved cold resistance through ubiquitination and degradation of MdBBX37 protein.

A novel LRR-RLK (CTLK) confers cold tolerance through regulation on the C-repeat-binding factor pathway, antioxidants, and proline accumulation

Bohao Geng et al.

Summary: The study identified a cold tolerance gene MtCTLK1 in Medicago truncatula and demonstrated its role in regulating cold tolerance through the CBF pathway, antioxidant defense system, and proline accumulation. This provides a valuable gene for molecular breeding programs aiming to improve cold tolerance in crops.

Molecular dissection of rice phytohormone signaling involved in resistance to a piercing-sucking herbivore

Jie Xu et al.

Summary: The phytohormone JA plays a crucial role in rice defense against the brown planthopper, while SA does not have a significant impact. Infestation by brown planthopper activates the JA signaling pathway and leads to accumulation of defensive secondary metabolites. JA-deficient lines are more susceptible to brown planthoppers, and MYC2 mutants are more vulnerable to brown planthopper infestation in nature.

AIR12 confers cold tolerance through regulation of the CBF cold response pathway and ascorbate homeostasis

Qi Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that MfAIR12 is induced under low temperature conditions and can increase the accumulation of H2O2 in the apoplast, thus enhancing the plant's cold resistance. Arabidopsis mutant air12 showed decreased cold tolerance, which could be restored by expressing MfAIR12.

A novel Medicago truncatula calmodulin-like protein (MtCML42) regulates cold tolerance and flowering time

Qiguo Sun et al.

Summary: MtCML42 positively regulates the expression of MtCBF1 and MtCBF4, leading to upregulation of some COR genes, MtGolS1 and MtGolS2, resulting in raffinose accumulation and increased cold tolerance. Additionally, MtCML42 regulates flowering time through sequentially downregulating MtABI5 and upregulating MtFTa1 expression.
