GA3-mediated reforestation pioneering mechanism of actinorhizal Elaeagnus conferta Roxb. in the slashed and burnt shifting cultivation lands in India's megadiversity hotspot

Maroof Shaikh et al.

Summary: A study in the Western Ghats of India found that a plant called Elaeagnus conferta is associated with the regeneration of forests. This plant increases the density and diversity of the forests, and the rhizosphere soil containing it has higher concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA(3)).

Spatial control of cell division by GA-OsGRF7/8 module in a leaf explaining the leaf length variation between cultivated and wild rice

Vikram Jathar et al.

Summary: The cellular and genetic mechanisms underlying rice leaf size regulation are not well understood despite rice being a staple food for more than half the global population. In this study, the researchers investigated the mechanism controlling rice leaf length using cultivated and wild rice accessions with varying leaf sizes. They found that gibberellic acid (GA), cell cycle, and growth-regulating factors (GRFs) are involved in rice leaf size regulation. Specific GRFs were identified to control cell division and determine leaf length. The differences in leaf length between cultivated and wild rice were attributed to spatial control of cell division mediated by GA and downstream GRFs. This mechanism may have contributed to leaf size optimization during domestication.

Mapping sites of gibberellin biosynthesis in the Arabidopsis root tip

Richard Barker et al.

Summary: Root elongation is dependent on gibberellin growth hormones, which promote cell production in the root meristem and cell expansion in the elongation zone. The study showed that GA biosynthesis in roots occurs in multiple tissues, with the endodermis playing a major role in synthesis.

Development of aerial and belowground tubers in potato is governed by photoperiod and epigenetic mechanism

Kirtikumar R. Kondhare et al.

Summary: Plants, such as potato, exhibit developmental plasticity and modulate growth responses under different environmental conditions. Studies have identified crucial molecular signals governing potato development mechanisms, with microRNA156 overexpression inducing profuse aerial stolons and tubers from axillary meristems under short-day photoperiod. The stolon-to-tuber transition in potato is controlled by factors like SD photoperiod, mobile RNAs/proteins, phytohormones, and small RNAs.
