Analysis of energy transfer through direct numerical simulations of magnetohydrodynamic Orszag-Tang vortex

Kiran Jadhav et al.

Summary: Direct numerical simulations of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence with Orszag-Tang vortex initial conditions were conducted for two different Reynolds numbers, showing weak turbulence spectra for low Reynolds numbers and spectra close to Kolmogorov spectra for high Reynolds numbers. Visualization of turbulence development within the flow using Q-criteria isosurfaces at the time instant of maximum enstrophy was performed, along with a new approach to understanding the dynamics of energy transfer between kinetic and magnetic energies in the early period of development.

Large eddy simulations of high-magnetic Reynolds number magnetohydrodynamic turbulence for non-helical and helical initial conditions: A study of two sub-grid scale models

Kiran Jadhav et al.

Summary: This study utilizes pseudo-spectral large eddy simulation (LES) to investigate the behavior of high-magnetic Reynolds number incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. The results suggest that the cross-helicity (CH) model outperforms the dynamic Smagorinsky (DS) model in predicting the evolution of MHD turbulence. At higher Reynolds numbers, the flow shows energy transfer towards small scales and exhibits a -5/3 Kolmogorov inertial sub-range scaling. The Arnold-Beltrami-Childress (ABC) flow demonstrates different characteristics at low and high Reynolds numbers, with a strong dynamo effect observed using LES models consistent with previous DNS results.
