A transition point for the blood flow wall shear stress environment in the human fetal left ventricle during early gestation

Hadi Wiputra et al.

Summary: The study examined the effects of scaling down heart size on fluid dynamics in fetal left ventricles, and identified a transition point in Reynolds number influencing the formation of diastolic vorticity structures. The findings have implications for normal fetal heart growth and malformation diseases like Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

Current status and etiology of valvular heart disease in China: a population-based survey

Ying Yang et al.

Summary: The epidemiology of valvular heart disease (VHD) in China has been studied through a national survey, revealing a weighted prevalence of 3.8% and an estimated 25 million patients in the country. VHD prevalence increases with age, with higher rates in those with hypertension or chronic kidney disease. Rheumatic heart disease remains the major cause of VHD, but there is a significant increase in degenerative heart disease, with age and hypertension being important markers of VHD.
