Wash-in leptogenesis after axion inflation

Valerie Domcke et al.

Summary: CP violations and B-L violations are not required to occur simultaneously for successful leptogenesis. New CP-violating interactions at high energies can result in primordial charge asymmetries, which can then be transformed into a nonvanishing B-L asymmetry by right-handed neutrinos at lower energies. In this paper, we study a novel mechanism known as wash-in leptogenesis, using axion inflation as the source of high-scale CP violation. We find a large range of viable scenarios and provide insights into intergalactic magnetic fields, primordial black holes, and gravitational waves.

Indications for a Nonzero Lepton Asymmetry from Extremely Metal-Poor Galaxies

Anne -Katherine Burns et al.

Summary: The recent measurement of helium-4 from the near-infrared spectroscopy of extremely metal-poor galaxies may indicate a new puzzle in the early Universe. By combining this measurement with the determination of primordial deuterium, researchers have found indications for a nonvanishing lepton asymmetry during the big bang nucleosynthesis era, suggesting cosmological implications beyond lambda cold dark matter. These findings highlight the importance of considering uncertainties in the nuclear reaction network and exploring conditions for a large total lepton asymmetry in the early Universe.

Primordial lepton asymmetries in the precision cosmology era: Current status and future sensitivities from BBN and the CMB

Miguel Escudero et al.

Summary: The EMPRESS survey, using a new sample of extremely metal poor systems, has reported a primordial helium abundance that is 3s smaller than the prediction from standard big bang nucleosynthesis. This could indicate a primordial lepton asymmetry in the electron neutrino flavor. A comprehensive analysis of the lepton asymmetry is presented, using measurements of primordial element abundances and cosmic microwave background (CMB) data from Planck. The results suggest a non-zero lepton asymmetry with a deviation from zero of 2.9s, assuming no dark radiation, or 2.2s if the abundance of dark radiation is not assumed.

Primordial neutrino asymmetry evolution with full mean-field effects and collisions

Julien Froustey et al.

Summary: Neutrino oscillations and mean-field effects play important roles in the evolution of neutrinos in the early Universe. By considering the neutrino self-interaction mean-field contribution and the complete expression for collisions, a more accurate description of the evolution of primordial neutrino asymmetries is achieved. An approximation method is used to simulate the synchronous oscillations in the evolution of neutrino chemical potentials, which is faster compared to the full quantum kinetic equation integration. The study also finds that the CP-violating Dirac phase does not significantly affect cosmological observables.

Baryon Asymmetry of the Universe from Lepton Flavor Violation

Kyohei Mukaida et al.

Summary: Charged-lepton flavor violation (CLFV) is a distinct feature of physics beyond the standard model, which plays an important role in the early universe. This Letter points out that efficient CLFV interactions create new pathways for generating the baryon asymmetry of the universe, and the conversion factor from lepton flavor asymmetry to baryon asymmetry is naturally explained by the suppression of charged-lepton Yukawa couplings squared.

Predictions for axion couplings from ALP cogenesis

Raymond T. Co et al.

Summary: By adding the axion-like particle (ALP) to the Standard Model and considering the field velocity in the early universe, researchers have proposed the ALP cogenesis theory to explain the densities of baryons and dark matter simultaneously, with predicted couplings between ALP and photons, nucleons, and/or electrons. The predicted couplings are orders of magnitude larger than those for the QCD axion and conventional ALP misalignment mechanism for dark matter. As a result, ALP cogenesis is within reach of future experimental ALP searches and dark matter studies.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of a finite relic neutrino degeneracy on the CMB angular power spectra and its correlations with other cosmological parameters. The results suggest that the relic neutrino degeneracy is a significant physical parameter for cosmological analyses, potentially loosening constraints on inflation models and slightly alleviating tensions in measurements.

Baryon isocurvature constraints on the primordial hypermagnetic fields

Kohei Kamada et al.

Summary: The decay of hypermagnetic helicity at electroweak symmetry breaking may have produced baryon asymmetry, however, fully helical magnetic field may not be strong enough to explain the origin of intergalactic magnetic field; the combination of helical and nonhelical primordial magnetic fields may explain both, but is ruled out by the constraint on amplitude of baryon isocurvature perturbations.
