Spherical indentation test for quasi-non-destructive characterisation of asphalt concrete

Hassan Fadil et al.

Summary: The indentation test is a promising technique for characterizing the viscoelastic properties of asphalt concrete. The test results are influenced by the material properties near the contact point. By comparing the measured complex moduli with shear box test results, a linear correlation is observed. Further analysis using a Gaussian mixture model allows for the classification of test results into aggregate-dominated or mastic-dominated responses. The study shows that the mastic-dominated measurements are more sensitive to temperature and binder properties of the asphalt concrete.

Experimental and modeling study of the viscoelastic-viscoplastic deformation behavior of amorphous polymers over a wide temperature range

Fan Liu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the viscoelastic-viscoplastic (VE-VP) deformation behavior of amorphous polymers through experimental and modeling study. It was found that common assumptions cannot fully explain the observed deformation behaviors. By assuming the existence of a glassy network formed from weak linkages in the polymer, the observed behaviors can be well explained. A constitutive model based on the glassy network assumption is capable of representing the loading, strain recovery, and stress relaxation behaviors simultaneously, in contrast to most of the existing models.

Temperature and shear dependence of rheological behavior for thermoplastic polyurethane nanocomposites with carbon nanofillers

Li-Min Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, MWCNTs, GNPs, and MWCNTs/GNPs filled TPU nanocomposites were prepared via melt mixing, and the effects of fillers, shear rate, and temperature on the rheological behavior of TPU nanocomposites were investigated. Results showed that nanocomposites with higher filler content exhibited anomalous rheological behavior at higher temperatures due to enhanced interactions between fillers and polymer.

Article An explicit model to extract viscoelastic properties of cells from AFM force-indentation curves

Shada Abuhattum et al.

Summary: Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is widely used for quantifying the mechanical properties of soft materials such as cells. Traditional methods using elastic parameters are insufficient to fully describe the mechanical properties of cells, whereas our research extends the understanding of cellular viscoelastic behavior by analyzing force-indentation curves.
