Integral-based averaging with spatial symmetries for non-local damage modelling

Alexey Shutov et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the application of non-local material models for simulating non-local damage accumulation and fracture. Various non-local cases with common spatial symmetries are analyzed analytically and numerically, and a new easy-to-use averaging kernel is suggested. Finite element method solutions are presented using a ductile damage model based on the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient.

Crack Model with Plastic Strain Gradients

E. E. Deryugin

Summary: This paper focuses on the stress field singularity in solids with a Griffith crack, proposing a new crack model that considers the effect of plastic deformation zones on the stress field. The study highlights the importance of plastic strain gradients in stress and strain calculations for solid materials with cracks and provides equations for evaluating the crack resistance of sufficiently ductile materials.

A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF TWO APPROACHES TO NONLOCAL DUCTILE DAMAGE MODELING

V. S. Klyuchantsev et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new nonlocal version of the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman model, which increases modeling accuracy by trapping damage and introduces efficient schemes for integrating constitutive relations. Despite the high accuracy in predicting integral characteristics and plastic strain distributions in both models, there is a significant discrepancy in predicting the local evolution of material porosity.

Large strain integral-based nonlocal simulation of ductile damage with application to mode-I fracture

A. V. Shutov et al.

Summary: The integral approach to nonlocal ductile damage is developed to enable stable and reasonable simulations of crack initiation and propagation in metals. By introducing a nonlocal evolution equation for porosity, strain localization is controlled, avoiding unphysical localization, and numerical tests of crack propagation are carried out successfully.

Nonlocal FEM Simulations of Ductile Damage with Regularized Crack Path Predictions

V. S. Klyuchancev et al.

Summary: The constitutive equations of finite strain elasto-plasticity are coupled with continuum damage mechanics to simulate crack initiation and propagation in ductile materials. A nonlocal damage approach based on integrals is introduced to address issues arising from local damage models, leading to physically sound results. Test problems for crack propagation in a compact tension specimen show convergence of FEM solutions for different mesh slopes.

Strain Gradient Effects at the Crack Tip under Plane Strain and Plane Stress Conditions

V. N. Shlyannikov et al.

Summary: The study showed that considering the influence of the intrinsic length scale parameter leads to different levels of stress increase at the crack tip under plane stress and plane strain. The dislocation density increases as the distance to the crack tip increases, with the coordinate of equal dislocation density components assigned to the outer boundary of the dominance region of strain gradient plasticity.
