Effect of holmium (Ho) partial substitution in structure and ferroelectric properties of bismuth ferrites (BFO)

Soumya G. Nair et al.

Summary: In this study, multiferroic holmium doped bismuth ferrite samples prepared by solid-state route method were analyzed to understand the effect of Ho3+ on the crystal structure, thermal properties, dielectric behavior, ferroelectricity, and AC conductivity of bismuth ferrites. The results showed significant effects of holmium on the morphology and compositional distribution of the samples, with the 80% holmium doped sample exhibiting better phase formation and fewer secondary phases.

First-principles calculations to investigate the structural and electronic properties of BFO through doping of holmium atom(s)

Soumya G. Nair et al.

Summary: In this study, density functional theory is used to simulate multiferroic bismuth ferrites and holmium doped bismuth ferrites. The research investigates the possible modifications with doping and observes smaller band gaps, shifting in density states, and the transition from direct to indirect bandgap. The tunability of these properties suggests potential applications in optical devices, photovoltaics, and photocatalysts.

Structural, electrical, and magnetic study of La-, Eu-, and Er- doped bismuth ferrite nanomaterials obtained by solution combustion synthesis

Angelika Wrzesinska et al.

Summary: Multiferroic bismuth ferrite materials doped with rare-earth elements were synthesized by solution combustion, showing ferroelectric properties and higher magnetization compared to bismuth ferrites obtained by other methods. The highest saturation magnetization was observed in the BLaFO sample at 300K and the BErFO sample at 2.0K. Several possible reasons for these phenomena were proposed and discussed.

Effects of lanthanum dopants on dielectric and multiferroic properties of BiFeO3-BaTiO3 ceramics

Bappa Sona Kar et al.

Summary: La2O3-substituted polycrystalline 0.56BiFeO(3)-0.44BaTiO(3) ceramics were prepared via conventional solid-state reaction process, with investigations on crystal structure, dielectric, magnetic, and impedance properties. La substitution enhanced the multiferroic nature of the materials, as evidenced by improved energy storage density and remnant magnetization.

Effect of doping in multiferroic BFO: A review

A. Joana Preethi et al.

Summary: Bismuth ferrite (BFO) nanostructures have shown great potential for energy applications due to their high energy storage efficiency, temperature stability, and low dielectric loss. Doping plays a significant role in optimizing the magnetic and dielectric properties of BFO materials, opening up new avenues for future research in this area.
