Advances in Schiff Base and Its Coating on Metal Biomaterials-A Review

Zhiqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In recent years, metal biomaterials with excellent properties have been widely used in medicine. However, these coatings have limitations in meeting all medical needs. Schiff base, an important organic reagent, possesses various anti-tumor, antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial activities. Schiff base coatings, by taking advantage of their properties, have great potential for improving the bioactivity of materials in medicine. This review highlights the preparation methods, properties, and advantages of Schiff base coatings, as well as their extensive applications in corrosion resistance, antibacterial, flame retardancy, and other fields. Suggestions for further research on Schiff base coatings for metal biomaterials are also proposed.
