Theoretical insight into the electronic, optical, and photocatalytic properties and quantum capacitance of Sc2CT2 (T = F, P, Cl, Se, Br, O, Si, S, OH) MXenes

Xing-Hao Cui et al.

Summary: The electronic and optical properties, photocatalytic activity, and quantum capacitance of different MXene monolayers were investigated. The introduction of specific functional groups greatly influenced the properties of the materials. Sc2C(OH)2 monolayer with a low work function showed potential in optoelectronics for improved power efficiency. Different MXene monolayers exhibited strong absorption performance in the infrared and ultraviolet regions. Sc2CT2 (T = O, S) monolayers demonstrated better photocatalytic activity within certain pH ranges. Sc2CT2 (T = F, P, Cl, Se, Br, O, S, OH) monolayers were found to be potential cathode materials in aqueous and ionic/organic systems.

Black Phosphorus/V3C2 MXene Layered Heterostructure as a Sustainable Cathode Material for Li-Ion Battery: An Ab Initio Study

Sunita Saharan et al.

Summary: Layered heterostructures with high mobility and ion loading capability have been explored as promising cathode materials for next generation Li-ion batteries. In this study, black phosphorus (BP)/MXene layered heterostructures (BP/V3C2, BP/V3C2N2, BP/V3C2O2, and BP/V3C2Cl2) were investigated computationally for Li-ion battery applications. First-principles calculations were conducted to evaluate Li ion intercalation, open-circuit voltage, adsorption energy, and diffusion barrier. The optimized BP/V3C2 layered heterostructure exhibited a significantly higher Li storage capacity of 630.320 mAh/g compared to previous 2D cathode materials. The simulated results suggest that BP/V3C2, BP/V3C2N2, BP/V3C2O2, and BP/V3C2Cl2 layered heterostructures can serve as favorable cathode materials for sustainable Li-ion batteries.
