Amzad Hossain et al.

Summary: This study investigates the numerical simulation of magnetohydrodynamic mixed convection with a non-uniformly heated plate using the GPU-based lattice Boltzmann method. The influence of parameters such as Richardson number, Hartmann number, power-law index, ferroparticles volume fraction, and magnetic field angle on the flow phenomena and entropy generation are studied. The results show the relationship between the influential parameters and the average Nusselt number, as well as the total entropy generation.

Study of the effect of magnetic field characteristics on Rayleigh-Taylor instability with density gradient layers

Cheng Peng et al.

Summary: It has been found that the magnetic Rayleigh-Taylor (R-T) instability can occur during the compression of a magnetized plasma target, affecting the fusion burn process. Simulation results show that the instability can be weakened or enhanced by introducing a direct current (DC) magnetic field or an alternating current (AC) magnetic field.

Unified lattice Boltzmann method with improved schemes for multiphase flow simulation: Application to droplet dynamics under realistic conditions

Geng Wang et al.

Summary: This study enhances the unified lattice Boltzmann method (ULBM) by incorporating a nonorthogonal moment set and the entropic-multi-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann model for constructing the collision operator, along with an extended combined pseudopotential model to simulate multiphase flow with tunable surface tension at high-density ratios. The improved ULBM significantly reduces spurious velocities and adjusts surface tension without affecting the density ratio, and is validated through reproducing various droplet dynamics experiments. The study demonstrates the flexibility and effectiveness of ULBM in handling complex multiphase flow problems.

Zaheer Abbas et al.

Summary: This study conducts a non-isothermal analysis of the calendering process using a water-based nanofluid with Cu-nanoparticles. The impact of nanoparticle volume fraction on various parameters is discussed, showing enhancements in pressure, temperature distribution, power input, and roll-separating force for higher nanoparticle volume fractions. Model II of dynamic viscosity of nanofluid has a greater impact on physical parameters compared to Model I.

Summary: The simplified lattice Boltzmann method (SLBM) is a new method in the LBM community, offering lower cost and better numerical stability. The coupled simplified lattice Boltzmann method (CSLBM) independently solves the Navier-Stokes equations and the convection-diffusion equation for the hydrodynamic and temperature fields, coupling them using consistent forcing scheme. The proposed boundary treatment allows for analytical interpretation of the no-slip boundary condition, and the CSLBM has been validated for accuracy, efficiency, and stability in various test cases.

Carreau ferrofluid flow with inclined magnetic field in an enclosure having heated cylinder

Sadia Siddiqa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the two-dimensional laminar flow of a non-Newtonian Carreau ferrofluid under the influence of a uniform inclined magnetic field in a square cavity with a stationary heated cylinder. The impact of nonlinear variation of the ferrofluid's viscosity on velocity and temperature distributions, heat transfer, and entropy generation is analyzed numerically. Results show that the inclined magnetic field, volume fraction, and power-law index can significantly alter the momentum and thermal fields and influence heat transfer rates and irreversibility. Additionally, the direction of the magnetic field can optimize the heat transfer rate, with the maximum rate achieved when the field is in the vertical direction.

Study on natural convection heat transfer in a closed cavity with hot and cold tubes

Jiyu Zheng et al.

Summary: The study investigates laminar natural convection with a pair of hot and cold tubes in a closed cubic cavity, focusing on the influence of Ra number, tube shape, and spatial position on heat transfer characteristics. Results show that Nu number increases with Ra number, with higher Nu numbers observed for circular and triangular shapes. Additionally, placing the cold tube above the hot tube among five spatial positions enhances heat transfer efficiency. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the performance of nuclear power plant containment passive residual heat removal system.
