Summary: The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of MgB2 was simulated, taking into consideration the effect of sintering temperature. The results showed an inverse MCE type in MgB2 samples within a specific temperature range of diamagnetic-paramagnetic transition. Additionally, higher sintering temperatures improved the MCE for MgB2. A comparison with other reported magnetic materials indicated that the MCE parameters of MgB2 samples were larger than those of several other materials, suggesting that MgB2 samples could be a promising candidate for magnetocaloric refrigeration in cryogenic temperatures.

Summary: In this study, the structure, magnetic phase transition, and magnetocaloric performance of a series of rare-earth-free high-entropy (HE) alloys, Al20Mn20Fe20Co14.5+xCr25.5-x (x = 0, 1, and 2), were determined experimentally and theoretically analyzed. The alloys exhibited ferromagnetic behavior, and their Curie temperature could be tuned by changing the Co content. The maximum magnetic entropy changes obtained were comparable or superior to those of reported 3d metal-based HE alloys. The agreement between experimental characterizations and theoretical predictions provided an in-depth understanding of the rare-earth-free HE Al-Mn-Co-Fe-Cr alloy system.

Summary: In this study, the structural, magnetic, and magnetocaloric properties of Mn20Al20Co14Fe20+xCr26-x high entropy alloys were investigated through experiments and first principle calculations. The Fe substitution of Cr enhanced the energy and net magnetic moment, leading to improved magnetic properties. These high entropy alloys underwent a second-order magnetic transition with Curie temperature ranges of 268.2-310.6 K. The magnetocaloric performances of the alloys exceeded those of reported transition metal-based materials. The study provides a large family of transition metal high entropy alloys with significant magnetocaloric performances.

Summary: Alloying antiferromagnetic Cr with ferromagnetic Ni enables the design of materials for room temperature applications with adjustable Curie temperature and magnetic interactions. This study investigates the relationship between film thickness, Cr surface segregation, and magnetic properties in nanocrystalline Ni100-xCrx thin films. The results show that the magnetic transitions and domain structure are influenced by Cr segregation evolution and film thickness. The behavior of the nanocrystalline Ni100-xCrx thin films can be adjusted by controlling the Cr doping level, providing a means for diverse magnetic applications.

Summary: From multicomponent high-entropy alloys (AlCoCrFeNi) to ternary alloys (CrFeNi) and binary alloys (NiCr), Cr doping plays a crucial role in modifying the magnetocaloric properties of the resulting alloys. The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of Ni100-xCrx (x = 5, 10, 15 at.%) nanogranular thin films was investigated by varying the concentration of Cr, showing near room-temperature magnetic entropy change (- delta S-M = 0.08 J/kg K) and relative cooling power (RCP = 25 J/kg) at 10 at.% Cr. The MCE properties can be well predicted using a phenomenological model based on magnetization as a function of temperature, showing good correlation with experimentally measured magnetic isotherms.

Summary: The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of Ni0.4Cu0.2Zn0.4Fe2-xDyxO4 (x = 0.02, 0.03, and 0.04) nanoferrites is simulated using a phenomenological model. The analysis reveals that Dy content strongly influences the MCE of Ni0.4Cu0.2Zn0.4Fe2-xDyxO4 nanoferrites in both conventional and inverse MCE. The temperature range of MCE in the Ni0.4Cu0.2Zn0.4Fe2-xDyxO4 system is extensive, making it particularly interesting for nitrogen and hydrogen liquefaction.
