Artificial Neural Network technique to assess tribological performance of GFRP composites incorporated with graphene nano-platelets

Santosh Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites and GFRP composites incorporated with 0.5 wt% and 1 wt% of graphene nano-platelets (GNPs) were prepared using hand lay-up method and compression moulding. Tribological testing was conducted under dry-sliding conditions, and the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) technique was used to analyze the experimental data. The results showed that the ANN predicted the output parameters with a high accuracy and the wear mechanisms were examined using FESEM and EDS analysis.

Effect of Insitu Formed TiB2 Particles on Tribological Behaviour of Al-Si/Mg2Si Hybrid Composites

Amit Kumar Yadav et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of in-situ formed TiB2 particles on the tribological behavior of Al-Si/Mg2Si hybrid composites. The results show that an increase in the amount of TiB2 particles can decrease the wear rate but increase the coefficient of friction of the hybrid composites. However, an increase in applied load and sliding distance leads to an increase in wear of the hybrid composites. The hybrid composite with 5 wt.% TiB2 particles in Al-Si/Mg2Si exhibits the minimum wear and highest coefficient of friction.

Synergetic influence of TiCnp and graphite particles on tribological performance of Cu based composites prepared by flake powder metallurgy

Ankit et al.

Summary: This study investigates the synergistic effect of nano titanium carbide (TiCnp) and graphite particles (Gr(p)) on the tribological behavior of Cu base self-lubricating composites. The results show that the addition of Gr(p) reduces the wear rate and coefficient of friction (COF) of the Cu matrix, and the wear rate is further reduced with the incorporation of TiCnp particles. However, the COF is increased. The composite with 5wt% Gr(p)-4.5wt% TiCnp exhibits the minimum wear and maximum hardness.

Investigation of second phase concentration effects on tribological and electrical properties of Cu-WS2 composites

Marco Freschi et al.

Summary: A set of self-lubricating copper-tungsten disulfide composites were prepared to analyze the effects of solid lubricant concentration on their tribological, electrical and wettability properties. The experimental results showed that a second phase content in the 10-15 wt% range could guarantee a better combination of the desired features.

Dry Sliding Wear Behavior of Magnesium Nanocomposites Using Response Surface Methodology

S. Kartheesan et al.

Summary: In this study, magnesium materials reinforced with different amounts of CaO were prepared using the disintegrated melt deposition technique. The sliding wear behavior of the nanocomposites was investigated and the effects of various design parameters on wear loss were analyzed. The results showed that increasing the sliding velocity and CaO content can reduce wear loss, while the sliding distance and load significantly contribute to wear loss.

Modeling of Mechanical Properties and High Temperature Wear Behavior of Al7075/SiC/CRS Composite Using RSM

R. Ashok Kumar et al.

Summary: This study focused on preparing hybrid composites with aluminium alloy strengthened with solid waste Crushed Rock Sand (CRS) and SiC through the stir casting process. Mechanical properties were investigated and an arithmetical model was developed to predict the properties, which showed improvement in hardness, tensile strength, impact strength, and flexural strength with increased percentage of reinforcements. The wear behavior of the composite was studied at different temperatures, showing a decrease in specific wear rate, frictional force, and coefficient of friction at elevated temperatures due to the creation of oxide films.
