Optimal time trajectory and coordination for connected and automated vehicle

Andreas A. Malikopoulos et al.

Summary: This paper presents a decentralized theoretical framework for coordination of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) at different traffic scenarios, including upper-level and lower-level optimization. The analytical solution of the lower-level optimization problem is provided, along with the formulation for the upper-level optimization with no duality gap. A geometric duality framework is proposed to derive the conditions under which the optimal solution of the upper-level optimization always exists. The effectiveness of the theoretical framework is validated through simulation.

Influence of tidal lane on traffic breakdown and spatiotemporal congested patterns at moving bottleneck in the framework of Kerner's three-phase traffic theory

Xiaojian Hu et al.

Summary: With tidal traffic becoming an important feature of urban traffic, the influence of tidal lane on traffic flow is studied in this article. A bilateral six-lanes motorway model with tidal lane model is established to study the positive influence of tidal lane on relieving upstream congestion induced by moving bottleneck and the negative effect of moving bottleneck on tidal lane. Based on simulation results, a qualitatively tidal lane opening strategy that considers the upstream moving bottleneck is proposed.

Improving the accuracy and efficiency of online calibration for simulation-based Dynamic Traffic Assignment

Haizheng Zhang et al.

Summary: Simulation-based Dynamic Traffic Assignment models have important applications in real-time traffic management and control. This paper addresses challenges in online calibration using the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) for large and congested networks, proposing methods to improve accuracy and scalability. By revisiting the concept of state augmentation and introducing a graph-coloring method, enhancements in prediction accuracy and computational performance were demonstrated through experiments and a case study.
