Implication of TRPC3 channel in gustatory perception of dietary lipids

Babar Murtaza et al.

Summary: The expression of TRPC3 channels in mouse fungiform taste bud cells is associated with fatty acid-induced gustatory Ca(2+) signaling and the taste bud CD36 lipid sensor. Activation of TRPC3 channel is controlled by STIM1 in lingual mTBC. Behavioral studies demonstrate that lingual TRPC3 channels play a critical role in fat taste perception.

Taste transduction and channel synapses in taste buds

Akiyuki Taruno et al.

Summary: Recent research has made significant progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms behind taste transduction, including the identification of specific taste sensors and components for each taste sensation. The discovery of unconventional chemical synapses and insights into the structures of ion channels have provided new perspectives in the field of taste sensation and neurotransmission.

Sour taste: receptors, cells and circuits

Emily R. Liman et al.

Summary: Sour taste, elicited by low pH, is considered one of the original four fundamental taste qualities. Despite decades of study, the identification of the sour receptor, neurotransmitter, and circuits for sour taste has only recently been achieved. Advances in understanding how information is transmitted from taste receptor cells to gustatory neurons, resulting in aversion to acids, have also been described.
